OK. I have been on this message board daily for the better part of a year. Love the VI. Always looking for a way to get back. I see all the derogatory comments towards cruise ship passengers. I understand the frustration.

So, don't kill me that I booked a cruise for 4/30 - 5/7 in the Southern Caribbean. And don't kill me that we'll be in St. Thomas on 5/1. And don't kill me that I'll be catching the ferry to St. John in the morning. And don't kill me that I'll be one of many on Trunk Bay rushing to catch the 3:00 back to the ship dock.

AT LEAST....I know the way and don't have to ask 1,000 questions about how far to Red Hook, what time is the ferry, how long is the trip, how much is a taxi, etc, etc.

WHAT CAN I SAY? The cruise was super-cheap. I'm in Puerto Rico already for business. The stars were aligned.

If anyone is up for meeting at Trunk Bay on Monday, 5/1 - - I'll buy you a beer (or 2 or 3) for the trouble!

You sold your soul for a cheap cruise!!!!

tsk, tsk....

do us a favor....tell all of the other passengers that you are an infectious disease doctor and you are on this cruise because a deadly disease is rampant on STT and STJ and you are investigating. Tell them they would be safer to stay on the ship until you come back with your results.

If it weren't for the cruise ship passengers many of us who are fortunate enough to live here wouldn't be able to make a living. And it isn't just the cruise ship passengers who ask all the silly questions. I had a man today at my job ask me where he could get a good fish sandwich. I work in a bar/restaurant which serves fish sandwiches, but he didn't want to eat at my restaurant. Go figure.

Good attitude, kate! I would think that would be the case.

Where do you work? I like fish sandwiches, too 🙂

Oh...I'll definitely be back to STT and STJ, NOT on a cruise ship, when finances allow. Can't afford $3,000 for a villa for the week and $600 to STT plus food, drink, etc.

WHy take the STJ ferry from Red Hook? There is one from the waterfront that is a bit more expensive, but way cheaper than the taxi fare difference to RH 😉

And LLBL - there are cheaper villas ;)...can't help ya with the airfare tho.

Well, if it wasn't for our cruise some years ago, I'm sure we would have never purchased our two weeks of time share on St Croix. I know I wouldn't have had this burning desire to return to Antigua. I know I wouldn't have this urge to do the Panama Canal cruise. Would like to stop in Curacao again after spending a total of ten weeks there in another life. Although I was a bit Carib savvy, wife thought only Hawaii would satisfy her wonder/wanderlust until we did the southern Carib cruise. Love St Croix but believe her economy wouldn't mind seeing a cruise ship or two.

I realize that many folks are tongue in cheek about cruise ships and their passengers but having a bit of a military background,I remember the signs and reports of signs in the yards at Norfolk, VA: "Dogs and sailers keep off". Also Biloxi MS: "Dogs and airmen keep off". Philippines: "White monkeys go home"!..etc. Well we sure did hear some different stories from the locals when the Base Realignment and Closing Committee recommended some of their bases for closure. No more kah-ching, kah-ching! Be careful what you wish for.

The only people I've ever met who have little time for cruises are people who have never been on one. What a great way to get a taste of different places and help you decide about some places you'd like to explore a little more.

Hope this wasn't too somber or scolding. St Croix bound in just under two months. Would have also never ended up on this message board and met and chatted with so many wonderful people if not for the "cruise".
