hi all, does anyone know if sapphire beach resort has a shuttle to/from the airport? i read on another forum [i think] that they hired one from there. i emailed them but haven't got a reply yet.in researching it seems we would be the last ones dropped off in the taxi, sounds like a long ride just to get to the hotel.the taxi rates are, what can i say, wow. you would think they would be private with them rates. might have to figure out if going with a car rental right from the airport would be better. at least a private taxi/shuttle would get us there without so many stops.i will have to decide how much we would need a car really i guess, then if we got enough guts to venture right away from the airport.lol if anyone knows about a shuttle thru sapphire could you please let me know. thanks all. scooby

I just called them and they said that you would need to get a taxi or rent a car to get to Sapphire from the airport. You can also rent a cat AT Sapphire, as they have a Budget Car Rental desk in the lobby.

Hey Scooby...when do u plan on going? I'll be at Sapphire Aug 19-22...i this you're better off taking a taxi if you've never been to the island before and then get a car from Sapphire to venture out if you're feeling adventurous. Atleast that's what I plan to do.

Consider it a tour of the island on your way to Sapphire!!
We rented a car right at the airport when we aqrrived. Very easy!! Then ventured the way to Sapphire ourselves!! Didn't enjoy the scenery as much cuz we were getting used to the whole driving on the left, & watching out for the donkey's & islander's!!

hey bibi....I personally can't tell you it was not a bad drive...cuz hubby drove it...but as a passenger, I'm glad we drove it!! The car rental at the airport is way easy!! Just walk out the door of the airport & cross the parking lot to the parking lot of the car rental place. VERY convenient!!

You can do it!!

Of course.....I could come along & help you!!!

bibi-

The drive to sapphire is pretty easy if you go over on the back (North Side) side of the island. Most people go the congested way and complain about traffic, etc. I don't blame them - it's very congested to go out by Havensight and over to Tutu, etc because this is where all of the shopping centers and businesse are. The North side is residential and easy to access if you know what road to use to cross over.

I think it's easier to head down Veteran's Drive (the waterfront main road from the airport), take a left at route 35, climb up to the castle (this places you at the top of the mountain that separates the front and back of the island, so you're kind of like on the crease) , make a right, follow to Smith Bay Road (very sharp left) and you're then on the road (Smith Bay) that goes by Sapphire.

IMHO, the key to enjoyable STT driving is to stay on the back side of the island whenever possible, even if you have to backtrack a bit to get there. There's hardly ever any traffic and the views are incredible.
