Upon returning our jeep after 4 days I requested that the $50 cleaning fee be removed. I was told that jeep had an excessive amount of sand and I would have to go to another rental agency to pay and use their vacuum. Of course I could not find this vacuum site and had a ferry to catch. I asked L &L if I could use theirs- commercial and not in use- I was told no! It would have taken me less than 5 minutes to clean up the "excess sand". I have rented jeeps on St. John for 30 years and have never had this happen.
Do not rent from them!!!!!!!
Also, they do not pick you up at dock as advertised !

I haven't rented from L&L, but had a horrible experience with Conrad Sutton last year. Returned a jeep which had a minor scratch on the bumper. He insisted the entire bumper would have to be replaced and charged me $275! Absolutely bogus, but as you, we had a plane to catch and couldn't stand around debating with him. Never again!

We have used L&L numeroust times for our StJ trips and have always been supplied with a "new" jeep, always have had courteous service, have had quick and positive response with any issues (only one prior to this trip) and have never had extra fees levied for sand or anything else.

I was becoming worried after reading some of the postings by posters here and elsewhere, that have had bad experiences with L&L. I was worried that since they have opened a STT office that perhaps they have gone through an ownership or management change. Because of the bad postings, I had to remind myself that they have always done well by me and I decided that they would have to lose me instead of me being scared away by a few negative reviews on the internet.

We just returned yesterday from a 10 day trip to StJ and rented our jeep from L&L. (Still having problems with the urge to drive on the left). I was happy to find that Levi and Kurt were still in charge and that I recieved courteous service from the young lady at the desk (Marla I believe) when we picked up the jeep.

Here is what has changed with L&L since our last trip;

-They do not meet you at the ferry dock. You must pick up and drop off the jeep at the lot in Cruz Bay next to the police station. It is only a 3 block walk from the dock. I miss the convenience of meeting at the dock.

- Like I said all the previous rentals were relatively new, the jeep we got this time had 37k miles on it. It had steering issues and a loud noise on the bumpy roads and it needed a new gascap as it had a dashboard indication that it was in alarm even after trying to reseal it tightly. I took the jeep to in early on our first day on island and told Levi the problems. He took it for a test ride and explained the under carriage noise was the skid plate. He also noticed the steering issues. He asked that we leave it with him for 30 minutes for repairs. We walked down to the Beach Bar and had lunch. When we returned, they had completed the repairs and we were on the road again. The repairs they made fixed the steering issues. We still had the gascap dash indication and the noisy skid plate but I was pleased that they were responsive to our concerns.

We had the jeep for 10 days, 3 of those days we were at Cinnamon Bay Camps. This meant that we had more than OUR normal sand in the jeep even though we take care to clean our feet prior to entering the jeep. We also took a trip to Lameshur and had to drive through Jeep size craters that were full of muddy water. This left the running boards, wheels and lower fenders dirty. We were not charged an additional cleaning fee.

We were once again pleased with the service we were provided by the L&L staff.
