Good Morning All,
My husband and I will be in STJ starting 1/25 and he's looking to find someone to give him scuba diving lessons and get him certified. He works on a lot of bridge projects over Lake Champlain and it would help his company if he was certified.
Our questions are:
1. Is there anyone on STJ that can instruct and certify? Coral Bay area would be ideal as that is where we are staying but we have a rental and can go wherever on STJ
2. Can this be done in two weeks or less?
3. Does anyone have a ball park figure on what it would cost?
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Any recommendations on instructors with contacts would also be great.
Thanks in advance
Jill and Gene
Best is Chris Sawyer on STJ. Call Caneel at 340-776-6111 and ask for the Dive shop. Cheers and have a wonderful visit!
Thanks STT Resident, we'll definately check into that lead.
ANYONE else?!
We just want to check out all the options and perhaps find someone out near Coral Bay (simply because that's where we'll be staying for 2 weeks)
Any suggestions and recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Jill and Gene
Here you go - Colette gets great reviews and is located in Coral bay 🙂

Pia,
Great info., they have a nice sight!
Jill,
It entails 4 dives with book and testing time. The testing is all multiple choice and if you read the book, easy. You can certainly do it within the 2 week period! I know Chris Sawyer has a set schedule, 6paq may be willing to work with YOUR schedule which is nice for you! I believe the cost is in the $400 range...... you can contact 6paq to find out. Your hubby will truly enjoy the experience, I assure you! I doubt any of his dives will be in a pool, but all in the ocean which is the best way!
Congrats and good luck!
Another idea is to take to course work and confined water skills tests at your local dive shop. You can get a referral for just your open water skills/check-out and be done in a couple of dives. That way you don't have to spend your vacation studying but instead can be logging dives...:-)
East Ender, thanks for the response. I will have my husband check out the local dive shop and see if that's something he can do, otherwise he may have to bite the bullet and study on vacation. Although studying on the white sand beaches watching the blue waters ripple by might not be too painful. Thanks again Jill
Chris Sawyer at Caneel Bay. Mickey is a terrific instructor. We dove with a 13 year old girl who Mickey had just certified the day before. She had perfect bouyancy and was totally comfortable in the water. Her dad had been certified with her but was unable to join her on the dive so she was on her own, within the group of 6 divers. The Divemaster was new to her. This girl was so comfortable that we asked who certified her. Very professional and personable. She looks young but she has been diving all over the world for a long time.
Thanks for the info.
