Has anyone stayed at this resort? How is StC compared to StT & StJ? My mom is letting us use her time share and this is one of the choices. What are dining and activity prices like here? Is there a lot of poverty on this island? Please give me any input! Thanks!!!

The hotel is nice, the food avarage. Don't know about the timeshare units. They have a casino on premises as well as a bar or two. Nice pool. Each island is diffrent from each other. All have great assets. Wouldn't consider it poverty stricken.

Thanks! I am looking to stay away from the Jamica type islands where there are armed guards at the shopping centers and people are begging you to shop in their stores. I also want to feel safe if anyone wants to rent a villa- which I would NEVER consider doing in a place like Jamaica.

Hello,

The beach is nice. Room wasn't real fancy but it was clean, comfortable. The pool was nice. I only had breakfast there on one occasion and it was good. Staff was helpful & friendly.

St. Croix has lots to do; visit historical sites, hiking, diving, beaches, great restaurants, casino... Renting a car is a good idea!

The Divi is at the far southeast tip of the island, so get a rental car! Cab fares to and from the Divi are truly atrocious and many cab drivers won't go that far late in the evening.

The casino is small and nothing to get excited about, but still fun for an evening now and then. The rooms are average. The food doesn't get good reviews from most guests. Once you're there, they have you as a captive audience if you don't want to drive 20-30 minutes each way for a meal.

The island has lots of things to keep you busy. There are lots of local hangouts (beach bars, etc.) where visitors are warmly greeted and soon become friends. On STT, you are likely to be dragged into a store by a shopkeeper having a slow day. That doesn't happen on STX. I've never even seen someone standing at the doorway calling to passersby to, "come look at my shit" as frequently happens in so many tourist venues.

I so much appreciated the laid back, friendly attitude of people here when I first visited the island in 1995 that I later moved here!

I've never stayed at the Divi but I've been there for the casino and crab races. We had a ball at both. St Croix is beautiful. You're going to love it. I got married there 4 years ago and we go back every year. We've rented a villa every year and wouldn't go any other way. Enjoy!

I own a time share at the Divi and have stayed at the time share 3 times and the hotel twice. The best thing about the Divi is the weather. If any part of the island is going to be sunny, it will be where the Divi is located.

When it comes to dining the Divi's casual restaurant is hit or miss. They have changed their menu and management company at least once a year. That being said, I think it has stayed the same the last 2 years. If you want a quick, lite bite to eat, especially after 8:00p.m., you're better off going to the casino (in terms of bang for your buck). Dining prices are about the same as stateside (or at least Metro Detroit).

Schooner's Market outside of Christiansted has a great selection of prepared food and a great salad bar along with a good selection of groceries that are about on average 15% more than stateside.

The Divi has the typical resort activities available and if you like walking up hills, there are many very safe and scenic walks you can take up the hill behind the casino or past the Hurrricane Hugo destroyed Grapetree Bay. The timeshares also have their own pool and hot tub, both of which are rarely used. They also have tennis courts.

Rent a car or after 2 days you'll get cabin fever and/or taxi fare rage.

The most important thing you need to bring with you is your own good-sized cooler. The ice machine at the hotel is right off the parking lot and you're going to need cold beverages if you're going to explore other beaches and sites.
