Hi everyone-

I've stayed at the Westin once before, but took a cab each time I went to Cruz Bay (stores, restuarants, etc.). Is this area within walking distance of the Westin (and is it able to be walked). I seem to remember it wasn't far, but not much area to walk other than on the main road, which i wasn't sure if it was safe to walk w/ traffic. I love the restuarants in Cruz Bay and plan on getting out of the resort quite a bit!!!

I've pondered renting a car, however it's just me and my girlfriend and I'm not sure we'd get the use out of it. We like to hike and pretty much stick to the more populated beaches (Cinnamon, Honeymoon, etc.) and the Cruz Bay area.

Any input would be appreciated as always.

While it is not far and one can physically do the walk, I would recommend you stick with the taxi as the roads do not promote pedestrian traffic.
Personally, I would recommend you rent the car and see more of the island at your pace. While the popular North side beaches are very nice, there is a great deal more to STJ. The East & South sides are very quiet. Francis Bay and Waterlemon Cay have wonderful beaches for sunning and snorkel. In addition, there are numerous hiking trails in the NE and SE areas of the island. If relying on taxi, seeing it all can get fairly expensive, not to mention wasting time waiting for one if indeed they are available in some areas.

Thanks for the info. Chris. My only concern with renting a car (I'd probably rent in STT and drive over) is that I won't be able to find parking in the Cruz Bay area. Have you found that to be the case?

Do you know if there's anything within "safe" walking distance to the Westin?

Thanks again!

The Westin has a regular shuttle that goes in & out of Cruz Bay on a regular basis....SO easy!

If you intend on spending the majority of your time in Cruz rather than explore the island, then the shuttle is best for you as Bert mentioned. Parking is not impossible in Cruz but you do need to be prepared for parking somewhere less convenient than your destination.
That said, the walk from car to restaurant will not be long and the weather is far better than anything back home.

Bert-

Do you know what the cost associated with the shuttle is (i.e. more or less than a cab)?

Thanks everyone.

Not certain, but I believe it is less since they run regularly and always have customers. Almost like a small bus service.
Suggest you use the Virtual Concierge at Westin and ask for details.
