Can anyone provide a recommendation for dining on STX? I'm looking for a nice place for dinner - more towards the high end rather than shorts and sandals.

Thanks.

You might try the Cultured Pelican in Coakley Bay. Or there is a new restaurant, Elizabeth's in La Grand Princess, or the Galleon on Green Key or Tivoli Gardens downtown or --- gosh, I guess you get the idea.

Ask around when you get here and check the paper for specials. We lack many things on STX, but fine dining is NOT one of them.

I really liked Tutto Bene (Italian) near Christenstead and loved Le St. Tropez (French) in
Fredrickstead.
The following link provides a pretty good reference. They never ate at St. Tropez. The ambiance there is worth the visit.

Hello Danc,

Bacchus and Tutto Bene; good food, atmosphere, service.

We found most restaurants to be pretty laid back. But on the higher end we found The Bucanneer really nice, great atmosphere. Also agree about Bacchus, Tutto Bene, and The Galleon.
We over dressed when we first got there, then discovered that people were dressing 'up' or casual --- whatever they felt like-- in the nicer restaurants. It was relaxing. Get ready for some great food and wonderful tropical atmosphere!

For starters check out http://www.stcroixscuba.com/restaurants.htm . I agree with almost everything he says except that I would probably categorize a few of the restaurants differently.

There are SO MANY fine dining options that it's difficult to make recommendations:
Bacchus
Kendrick's
Duggan's
Tutto Bene
Savant

And that's just off the top of my head, there are more. I'll e-mail you my "reviews" separately - it's way too long.

Also plentiful, you just need to look a little harder. I like Luncheria - very decent Tex-Mex at dirt cheap prices. You can have a meal and a Dos Equis for around $10. Kim's is very nice, expecially if you want to try local food (she does serve regular food). Prices are around $10-12. My favorite is the Bombay Club (named for the gin, not the city) which serves everything from burgers/fish and chips to filet mignon in a lovely old West Indian townhouse. Prices range from $8-ish to $20+. I've heard that Singh's has very good West Indian food, I've just never hiked up there. Shenanigan's only serves breakfast and lunch, but it is excellent and priced lower than what I usually pay at home (and I do not live in a high-priced market). The place is squeaky clean as well. These places are all in downtown Christiansted. I also like The Golden Rail in the Gallows Bay marina (a half mile walk from downtown) for good, inexpensive food.

Elsewhere on island Off the Wall has very reasonable beach bar food that is delicious - it's at Cane Bay. In Frederiksted Change's in L'Atitude offers a very good value.

Finally, I should mention that I have split the Bombay Filet (2 filets mignons) with my sister and paid only a small plate charge - that means you can have filet mignon for around $12 (if you don't require a big meal). Another deal can be found at Tutto Bene, where they will allow you to order half orders of any of their wonderful pasta dishes and actually charge you only about $.50 more than the actual half price ($9 for $17 dish). Their half orders are large and the Bolognese sauce is the best I've ever had, but they have much more innovative sauces as well.

Tutto-Bene is great! If Villa Madeline is open, it is wonderful!

We were there the last week Villa Madaline was open. We heard someone bought it for a private home. What a fantastic view they have!

Autumn-- Rumrunner's sandwiches and burgers are large enough to eat half and take home half if you don't have a huge appetite. (or just pig out like I always seemed to...)
Cheeseburgers in Paradise also has huge burgers that you can split. We really enjoyed eating breakfast at the Golden Rail, too. I'm looking forward to going back in Feb and trying some of the local restaurants like Harvey's and Kim's -- so many people told us they have great food. TOO many good restaurants on the island.
