There seems to be 2 dinghy rental companies going out of Cruz Bay...

Noah's Little Arks
Calypso

The Calypso dinghy is $5 more per day, but has a seat for 2 and steering wheel - and a 50 hp engine.
The NLA dinghy has a 30 hp engine - no seat, tiller steering

Has anyone had experience with the Calypso dinghy? We've previously rented the tiller dinghy, but not the wheeled dinghy.

Sounds like a fun day, either way. Just looking for any feedback.

Blu, for $5 more a day it sounds like a no brainer. Go for the steering wheel and the seat for 2.

I'd much rather have a steering wheel in front of me, then twisting my arm and back all day with the other.

Next year, we're going to do this...sounds like a ball.

Will the steering-wheel dinghy hold 4 adults?

{and would you estimate the taxi travel time form STT-Red Hook at 45 Mins?}

I ma not sure how many adults since I only have 2. Best to call and ask. They were very receptive to my phone call this morningg. Lots of good info!

Hmmm STT to Red Hook....45 mins seems a little long, but I guess you should factor in other things...picking up car, getting used to left, traffic, etc.

Thanks - I will call.
I searched the question about the taxi time - I asked a year ago - 35 minutes was the response by Islander

35 is a good figure..... 25 if you get lucky or know where you're going and don't encounter traffic issues.

We rented from Calypso last year and had the 4-seater and steering wheel! It was great and much more preferable than trying to steer from rear. We took dinghy from Cruz Bay to Waterlemon -- water was very rough, but still worth it! Waterlemon was the most incredible snorkeling that we have done so try to go there. We will probably rent from Calypso again this year!

Has anyone here ever rented from Crabby's in Coral Bay? I have emailed them questions from time to time, and their responses were hit and miss at best. We'd like to use them this week - any good or bad comments out there?

Yes -- this dinghy was very roomy and also has storage compartments for snorkel gear and dry clothing. Hope you enjoy! We will back there on July 7th and can't wait.

skil,

buddy and i rented from crabby dec o5 and found him very accommodating, but seems like i read a post a couple months ago saying business was for sale. we went by in dec and late jan and no dings in water, not sure whats up.

if he's open i'd rent at coralb vs cruzbay because at coral you get to go to beaches and mangroves thta are hard to get to by car. almost all n shore beaches are walkins. that's why we used crabby eventhough we we staying on gifft hill and cruz bay more convient. but if crabby is closed your options are limited. but since i have an opinion on everything, i think steering wheels are for sissys! and that's the truth!

For the dinghys from Calypso - they seem to be more like a boat; can you actually pull these up onto the shore?

Does anyone know what they consider "boating experience" at calypso? I don't have a license, but I do have plenty of exp. Any thoughts?

I'd really like to know the cost of these dinghys, if you folks would be so kind to pass that info on, it would be great!

Has any one used Crabby's out of Coral Bay? We'll being staying on that end of the island in August and are thinking of using them. Their website is quite outdated..back from 2004.
