A couple of questions about the dinghy rentals on STJ... might be an obvious answer to some, but when my wife questioned me, I couldn't answer for certain. How big are they? Are they inflatables? Do the have an outboard motor? Anything else I can tell her about them? Thanks!

Noah's Little Arks in Cruz Bay have 12' and 14' inflatables with 15hp outboards (30hp on the 14'). I think it is $130/$170 for a full-day rental (gas included).

We got one for half a day - Want say it was $75. We went all the way to water lemon cay (that is as far as they will let you go) snorkeling, back to maho so my wife could swim her laps. Jumbie for just a little bit and then back to Cruz Bay.

The dinghy was great for 3 people - 4 would be ok

Great way to see the beaches. No worries with taxi or parking.

Can 4 people fit in a dinghy with beachchairs, etc.? I saw these the last time we were in St. John and they did not look that large. How about a small motorboat -- where can we rent one of these possibly for day and could we go to Jost or Tortolla in one of these? I do not really have a feeling for how far these islands are.

Try this place. They rent boats out to people with experience or you can hire a Captain.

There are several places that will take you to the BVI on a motor boat. If you want the list I put together send me a Private Message and I'll share it.

What do they classify as "experienced"? I know many people that can operate a boat including myself, but not sure what "experienced" would exactly be required in terms of navigating the waters in this area since they are not familiar.

Their web page used the word "experienced" so I think you would have to call them to find out.
