Does anyone have any experience using Destination St. John Villa rental company? How long have they been in business? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Carol

My husband and I rented from them last August. We got turned onto them from a friend who had rented from them previous to us. They were a very helpful company and easy to work with.

I've used a couple different Villa Rental companies and I recommend www.windspree.com

Karen and Kay live on the island (in the Calabash Boom area, I think), and they're an invaluable resource for ALL things St. John (almost as good as this board, if that were possible).

We have just recently rented a villa through this company. So far they have been very helpful. (We have never been to SJ before so we have no past experience with them.) I have emailed them with questions and they have been very good to answer any questions I have. I understand that they will meet us at the ferry and take us to rent a car and then on to the villa. Other companies may do this also, i just dont know.

We are renting from Destination St. John this June. So far they have been very helpful in our trip planning and we are really looking forward to vacationing in their villa!

We're also renting from them in August. So far I've been really happy with the service. I even decided to change which property we're staying at (from spyglass to temptress because of location & a/c) and they were completely helpful and easy to deal with. Always very responsive.

Do a search for Temptress villa, I know someone left a very positive review of it on the boards several months ago. It may have included a review of DSJ but I'm not sure.

Thanks for all the info. When I called with questions, they said they would like the damage deposit in the form of a check (instead of a credit card). I found this a little odd, given that the actual deposit was accepted with credit card. Maybe this is normal - any comments?

They were very helpful and very familiar with the villa.

One thing that they said was that a car rented on St. John could not be taken to St. Thomas via car ferry (like for the day to shop). Another thing they mentioned is that they thought the regular ferry now charges for bags. Anyone know about either of these things?

Thanks for the feedback - I really appreciate it.

Hello Carol,

I don't know of any St. John car rentals that allow their cars to be taken over to St. Thomas on the barge.

I gave the ferry folks a call; purses, brief cases, back packs, bags you carry on you are free. If its luggage/boxes and the guys have to handle them then there is a $2 charge per each one.

Thanks Islander for checking it out - that is very helpful. As I understand it, there are vehicle rental companies on St. Thomas that allow their vehicles to be taken to St. John on the car barge - is that correct? We enjoy both islands and want to be able to easily travel between the two.

Our Property Manager for our vacation home rental on Water Island asks for two checks upon registration from our guests: 1. Rental deposit and 2. Separate check for the security deposit. When asked about why she asks for SEPARATE checks, she says its just easier. Once the renter vacates the property, she and the maid verify that the home is ok, no LD phone bills, etc. then writes VOID on the check and mails it back to the renters. There's probably better methods but this way works out. Besides, we've been very fortunate and not had any damage from renters (knock on wood). If there were "issues", the Property Manager would deposit the check, remove any monies owed, and send the remainder to the renter.

Hello Carol,

Yes there are St. Thomas rental agencies that allow their cars to go over to St. John.
