Hello

I am going back to St. Thomas in February, and was looking into doing a daysail to the Baths and Soggy Dollar. So far, I have only found one charter company that does this specific trip (New Horizon).

Does anyone out there have any feedback on New Horizon, or does anyone know of another charter from St. Thomas (preferably Red Hook) that does this same trip?

Thanks

Well, Limnos is supposed to do it. We tried to book for 2 weeks from now to go from St John (but they do leave from Red Hook also) to JVD. They're only running their Baths trip. It may be because it's low season. I'd imagine in Feb, things are a little busier. Limnos looks OK. Anyone go with them before? They provide all food and drinks for like $110 + customs into the BVI

Yes, we did a Limnos trip in November to the Baths and Norman Island for snorkling and highly recommend it. As always, do a search under these types of trips on this board and you'll find all kinds of comments made about Limnos, New Horizon etc. I don't remember that Limnos did a Soggy Dollar trip but then again we didn't go looking for that. Why Limnos? Because the boat was big and we weren't jammed into it like we saw on the other boats-we had alot of personal space, their service was excellent, the focus was on the Baths and the snorkling, not on bar hopping which we didn't care about (they did have lots of drinks on board however we just didn't feel like paying all that money to go to a bar and had already been to Foxy's), we got to see Virgin Gorda a little because Limnos takes you to Spanishtown and taxis you over to the top of the Baths from there so it was WELL worth it to see more of the BVIs than we would have otherwise. Yes, it was about $100 and change each plus we did leave a healthy tip for these hard working, courteous, and fun staff members. $$$, actually it was a little cheaper than every other boat we looked at. They even let me steer the boat for about 20 minutes (stayed with me but believed me when I told them I was a boater myself), just don't tell the bosses- boy, was that wicked cool!

Thanks! That's what I figured about the trip from what I had seen. Since we don't like other people, the boat looked roomy enough, especially for an off-season trip. The Norman Island part of the trip looks cool. We're really looking forward to it.

I appreciate the info. It seems that Limnos pops up quite a bit as people's favorites. I will look into that one as well.

Thanks

And just to clarify, there are 2 different "New Horizons" that I have found.

One is New Horizons Snorkel Adventures. This is an actual daysail (you know, on a sailboat). I found them at http://www.newhorizonsvi.com.

The other is New Horizons Charter, which is a motor boat. They are at http://newhorizonscharters.com. This one leaves out of Sapphire Beach.

I was wondering if anyone had taken the motor charter. I was looking for a specific trip, one that leaves from St. Thomas and goes to the baths and the soggy dollar. This is the only one I have found. I enjoyed their website, as it is set up like you are actually taking the journey (they break down each segment and stop).

Just wondering if anyone out there has taken this charter before and could offer any feedback.

Thanks!

There's a long screening process involved to be tolerated by us. We're snobs. We can't help it. Then again, get us drunk and we like anyone

How cool- I don't know if its good or bad that I understand this completely! We saw some boats where the people were sitting like sardines in a can and the first thing we both said was "we don't like anyone that much". We're not complete snobs but don't feel obligated to talk to someone else unless the mood strikes us. That being said, we went to a get together last time we went down, did alot of talking and came away with two new sets of friends! You must be from New England like hubbie and me where snobbery is genetic I think or else we learn it in school.

well -this is OT but I have a funny story about "snobs". When my husband and I were in the Bahamas, there was a couple at our resort that we kept running in to. We went on a dinner cruise - there they were. We went shopping, there they were - everywhere! Well, every time we'd pass them, we'd smile, nod say hi, etc and they would just glare and then look away! not even crack a smile. Then, the last night there, the resort was having a BBQ party (with "junkanoo" or whatever) and wouldn't you know they seated us at the same table as that couple! We were like "well hello!" and the only thing they said to us (in this very British accent) was, "so, when are you two leaving?" !!!! couldn't believe it! After seeing them all week - they just wanted to know when we were getting the hell off the island! We still laugh about that, and it was 17 years ago!

Too funny! I SO get it! My husband (originally from OH) complains about NE for that very reason. Oh well, we're just "reserved" 🙂

This is such a funny conversation! Being from NJ, I can totally relate to the anti-crowd/snob thing while on vacation.

I just don't get it...why do people sign for day trips like a sail if they don't like being around others.

snorkelgirl: We may live in Raleigh, but lived our whole lives up until last year in NJ. See...you understand.

Plus, once on a snorkel/boat trip, a lady barfed all over me. So, I'm not so much into the crowded boat scene.

YUKK!! Pipanale, I can't even imagine your reaction. Hopefully, you were able to enjoy the daysail after that........somehow. Where in NJ were you living?
