I booked a daysail from STT through a link on this website three weeks ago. Now, two days before we leave for our vacation, the outfitter wants to reschedule since there are no other bookings to "fill" the boat to the minimum (four). Is this a common occurrence? Is it too late to consider looking for another boat? I understand there could be weather or mechanical problems that could force a postponement, but this doesn't seem to be the case here. Any comments out there?

Soon to be unfrozen:

A couple of options: Find another couple to share the sail with you, visit at bars or try posting. We've met nice people off this board & other board sharing trips--and have come across other couples on beaches looking for someone to go out on a sail. Most were very pleasant experiences.

Or, buck up and pay extra for their minimum so you can go on your sail. It is most annoying that when you go on a trip as a couple (as so many do) that these boats have a minimum. We've also paid extra for just the two of us to go and had a really nice day. Don't have to worry about anyone but yourselves. We didn't like having to pay the minimum, but in the end were very happy that we did get to go out and had an extremely relaxing trip.

. . .supposed to snow again tonight.

Another option is to call other charters to see if they still have room. There are MANY daysail charters out there and I believe they all do it mainly for their love of the sea and showing off "their" island (of course, they've got to make a living, too). Try Captain Sharon at the Winifred

I'll bet you can catch another ride without much issue if you have a certain day you'd really like to go.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

But to answer you original question, yes, it is common for boats to have a minimum below which they will cancel the trip.

Liz, VI, LJ:

Thanks for the helpful responses.

It sounds like I could stand to "chill out" a little regarding sailing schedules. Maybe an umbrella drink would help, too.
