My husband and I are visiting in October. We have been looking at all the different charters and cannot make up our mind. We basically want to explore Jost Van Dyke and do some kayaking or snorkeling. I don't want to take a sail boat. Is the Scubadu a good one?

The New Horizons II or Captain Nautica are both great trips, IMHO. Whenever I have friends or family visiting I try to take them on one of these two. Unless I rent a 26'ft cat and take them myself. That's a good way to do it if the water's not too choppy.....less than 4-6 footers. NHII and CN are big enough, and fast enough, to get you to the Baths and elsewere. NHII is probably the better of the two for you, as I don't think CN is doing Jost right now. NHII has a website where you can check out the trip. www.newhorizonscharters.com When you call to book it, ask for Holly. She'll probably be the one answering the phone, anyway. Have a GREAT trip!

Hello Angie,

Scubadu is a good one. Its a catamaran, 6 pack (maximum 6 people, or charter the whole thing to yourselves). I don't think they have kayaks on board anymore although their site says they do among other 'toys'. Double check on this if kayaks are important to you.

Shag Maritime charter is a power boat. If you wanted a 6 pack its another good choice.

New Horizons II, mentioned above, is another great choice. Its a bigger boat so you get a small group atmosphere.

To help with your decision making; are you looking for a small private trip which might offer a little more flexibility toward what you want to do. Or do you want a group, more set itinerary but more people to chat with.

To answer your question regarding if we are looking for a small private trip, we would prefer it. As you stated it would offer a little more flexibility toward what we are wanting to do. I don't really like the itinerary thing. The only thing I am worried about with the private trip is the cost. I am willing to spend up to $200.00 a person (there are only 2 of us) but really don't want to go higher than that. Do you think that is reasonable?
