We are visiting the first week of September and want to take a ferry over to see The Baths. According to the ferry schedule it only goes on Thursdays (which we can't do) and Sundays. When I looked up customs though, it says they are closed on Sundays. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we could go from St. Thomas to The Baths by ferry on Sunday or Monday or of a reasonable day trip (charter, snorkel boat, etc.)
Thanks!!! 😎

What do you consider "reasonable?"

New Horizions II is in my opinion very resonable. Its about 150 pp but includes open bar and some snacks. Stops at the baths Marina Cay, and Jost Van Dyke. Not sure if thats what you are looking for but its a really nice day. Enjoy

Something does not sound right. If customs closes on Sunday, then supposedly, nobody can come in the US from out of the country (BVI), not the ferries, not the day charters.

I suggest that you call STT customs and/or Inter-Island Boat Services (Ferry) at (340) 776-6597 to check.

If Monday is a better day for you, you can ferry to Tortola (Road Town) then to VG. It's not that much out of the way.

Have fun

Good Morning,

We just took the trip over to VG last Sunday. We took InterIsland Ferry from Red Hook at 8:00 AM. We stopped in STJ, then over to Spanishtown in VG. Most passengers on the ferry went to the Baths. Since we live in STT and have been to the Baths more times than I can count, chose to rent a car and zip around the island. We were able to head to the North Sound - see the beautiful area around there. Stopped in Leverick Bay to check out the marina and from there able to catch the "free" ferry to Saba Rock. Had lunch there - hopped the little ferry again back to Leverick. Got back in the car - cruised around to see the sights. Got back to the dock in Spanishtown for the trip back (leaves at 3pm). Ferried back and had to go through STJ customs ( huge lineup and was there for an hour). After that headed right back to STT - Red Hook without incident. A truly delightful day with beautiful weather. InterIsland ferries are OK, but do prefer the ferries of Speedys and Roadtown Fast ferry for comfort. InterIsland fit our scheduling needs -Sunday was our only day available. The Captain and crew were fabulous and tons of fun!

The folks that went to the Baths all said they had a great time. Taxi also took them to Devil Bay where the beach, snorkeling was great.

Everyone had a FINE day in the Caribbean......BVI is a wonderful place to visit!

ms411,
We were hoping to keep it around $150 per person, so about $500 total for the four of us.
Thank you soxman21 and gcgem for your info! gcgem, I take it customs are open on Sundays then and what i had read was wrong?

Trip on Sunday was with InterIslands, was $80 per person round trip. Yes, Customs is open 7 days a week because of traffic. If there are ferries running, the hours will correlate to those ferry schedules at the very least.

Boats and ferries clear customs either at STJ or STT. On sundays, STT's customs might be closed as OP has read, but STJ's customs
will still be open as Inter-Islands ferries clear customs at STJ before going to STT.

Customs for both USVI and BVI are always open on weekends and Holidays.....There is a higher fee for weekends in the BVI.

I would highly recommend Stormy Petrel/Pirates Penny! I took a day trip with them last year which stopped at the Baths and provided a guided tour of them, went to Cooper Island for a lovely lunch at a beach club just steps from the water, then went to Jost Van Dyke for a stop at the Soggy Dollar. The boat is limited to 12 people so it's not one of those huge booze cruises (but there is an open bar all day). The crew of two was laid back, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the area. You have the run of the boat and are able to ask questions and even drive for a bit if you want! I think we paid about $160 each plus customs fees ($20 if I remember correctly) and for our lunch (about $20 as well). I wouldn't hesitate to take the exact same charter again the next time I'm there!

Here's the link to their site - we did the Bath's and Jost Van Dyke tour. As an FYI, we didn't get to "shop and stroll in Spanish Town" but we didn't care.
