We will be in St. Thomas New Years day on the Golden Princess. This is a second visit to the Island, while the first go round we spent the day on St. John. I cant imagine a place more beautiful than that, however, we are considering a day trip to either Water Island or Jost Van Dyke for this trip. Would really appreciate all opinions to help us make our selection. Thanks for your help!

Jost Van Dyke trip gets my vote, hands down. More involved to get there but well worth the trip. Water Island is OK if you want to be alone but you can get the same at STJ and the views are better on STJ.

I agree with Chris. Spent the day on Jost Van Dyke in May. It was one of the most relaxing days I have ever experienced. The beach at White Bay is beautiful. Grab a hammock and enjoy. Not much of a drinker, but the Soggy Dollar was pumping out the Pain Killers. We spent the morning on White Bay and moved to Foxy's in Great Harbor for lunch and the wonderful entertainment Foxy provides for his guests. The food was pretty good too. Our cab driver, Tommy Dorsey, was great. He picked us up at the dock in the morning, took us to the Soggy Dollar, came back for us at about 1:00 for the trip to Foxy's, then from Foxy's back to the dock. It was a trip I plan to take again.

One thing to remember for a day trip to Jost...don't forget passports, or birth certificates w/ photo I.D. Can't do the BVI without them! (and I agree...spend the day on Jost. :^)

I saw the replies that Chris, Starfish and Marty gave to this post. A day trip to JVD is in my plans for a trip in mid Nov. What would be the best way to get there from Red Hook or St John. Is there a water Taxi etc.

Hello Ar3rd,

There is a ferry. Ferry operates on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays ONLY between Red Hook St. Thomas, Cruz Bay St. John and Jost Van Dyke British Virgin Islands. The trip takes about 45 minutes. Tickets are $40 round trip. Check the ferry schedule at:

https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry/

for the Jost Ferry and others.

I was reading on another board about how rough the ferry boat ride is from Charlotte Amalie to Cruz Bay usually is. I was wondering if the ferry trip from Cruz Bay to Jost Van Dyke would be as rough. Just thinking of my stomach.

That all depends on the seas that day, but for most people, even in 6 footers, being topside on the ferry proves no more upsetting that than the roads! Haha! The ferry from CA to CB is going "into" the normal waves (out of the East), whereas going from CB to JVD you will be cutting accross them instead of pounding head on into them. Risk it, you will be fine.

Thanks. We are considering the New HorizonsII trip. Just not sure if the finances will be there. So we are considering alternatives. Possibly the ferrry to Jost Van Dyke.
