To all that has taken Day Sail Trips or own your on Boats what shall I expect in bringing a camcorder along, and my digital camera. I am concerned with the moisture or should i be?
Ms CoCo.
I think you are right to be concerned since any spray or water that gets on the cameras will be salt water and will corrode the cameras quickly. There are a couple of water resistant digital cameras available from Pentax and Olympus and almost all camera manufacturers have waterproof housings for their cameras. There are also water proof bags that you can get that will protect the camera but still allow you to take pictures. There may also be water resistant camcorders but I haven't looked at them.
Ms Co CO,
We took our brand new digital on New Horizons II in Dec. I did buy a waterproof bag to keep it in when not in use. Even at full speed, the spray never got in the boat. A ziploc bag would work. We did take it when we swam in th the baths & Jost. It was in the waterproof bag & it did go all the way under when hubby slipped getting in the water 🙂 No problem. I also kept it in the bag while sitting on the beach. There are waterproof bags on Ebay that you can shoot pics through. I have one of the bigger 12x zoom cameras & the bag would have been $35-$50. Didn't go that route. I
We have been on 4 different sails and bought our video camera and digital camera all times and they were just fine. Unless you accidently drop them overboard, you should be fine. Even at full speed, you rarely get sprayed that much. HAVE FUN!
