I will be in St Thomas over Thanksgiving Weekend. Can anyone recommend
a good Boat and Captain for a Day Sail ?

Do you want a private trip for two, or would you like to join others?

Hello Ron,

Take a look at the charter section on this site:

https://www.vinow.com/stthomas/SandL/

If you want to go out with a small group... 6 max; there are a number of 6 pack charters listed in that section with description, photo and link to more info.

If you want a larger group (20...25..) New Horizons gets very good reviews.

Ron:

We were on the New Horizons last April.....excellent cruise...excellent crew. Say hello to Captain Mike (from "Mike at Point Pleasant") if you use them.

Regards,

F.I.

We also went on New Horizons last Aug. Had about 10 people on the boat and I've got to say that it was an excellent trip! The drinks were great, and didn't stop coming. Service was fantastic, and the crew was awesome. The lunch, (pasta, meatballs, Italian bread, shrimp, you name it) would probably cost about $30 a person if you ate at a restaurant on shore. I can't say enough good things about them, and recommend them highly. Book online and get a 10% discount, pay the balance in cash and get another $5 off per person.

I am interested in a power boat charter to BVI in Dec. with my husband and two
daughters ages 12 and 16. I have been told by a SJ booking agency that
New Horizions 2 is a bit adult oriented for kids and that we would be better off
with Stormy Petral. This agency does book both. Does anyone have an opinion
either way.

NH II is only adult oriented in that they serve a lot of cocktails. 12and 16 will be just fine and they will have a blast. Go with New Horizons II and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Marty for the info on NH ll. Maybe you could help me with another decision.
Since we will be in SJ for 9 days, we want to book about 3 excursions. Along with
the bvi trip, we also would like to do a fun catamaran that is large enough to have that
party atmosphere but not too crazy to be embarrasing for my girls. We would also
enjoy a day sail on something smaller and fast. In my research I have found a couple
that I think I would like but they are a bit pricey. (Outlaw and Scubadu) I realize that
Scubadu does not hold many people but it looks like afine boat. The same guy
that recommened Stormy Petral also highly recommended Allura and a sailboat
out of Coral Bay called Long Distance. He suggested LD because it goes to different
snorkeling spots that are not included in most day sails that leave from ST or Cruz
Bay. He said they are more pristene and less traveled. Any knowledge of these
boats, or do you have a better idea?

I've not been on either of them, but I'd think they would be good if he recommended them. Something else that you might want to do...BOB Underwater Adventure (www.bobusvi.com). It's a half-day trip out of Havensight on St. Thomas and it's a real hoot. Imagine each of you driving your own underwater motorscooter. The kids will love it...and so will you! You also might want to look into going for a helicopter tour or the seaplane tour (www.seborneairlines.com). Those are both fun.

Neither I or my beloved really drink a whole lot of adult beverages... is it still worth the price to do the daytrips with NH II or Limnos if we're just looking to see the BVI's? And I have to say being on a boat of drunk folk sounds like it might be something of a turn-off on taking this trip. Do people get out of hand, or do they just enjoy themselves for the most part?

Just returned today from a great week in ST. Took the NHII to BVI and it was a great day. Although there was plenty to drink nobody got drunk or unpleasant as it isn't really known as a party boat, but I guess it could happen. Plenty of soft drinks, water, etc. also. We had a group of about 17. The Limnos holds a lot more people. For a daysail we took the Fantasy Daysail with Pam Heath and it was the best day ever. She only takes 6 and she and Brian are the most wonderful people. You won't go wrong if you use her. Other people we met at our resort took NH day sail and reported that they also had a good time. Don't think you will go wrong no matter which one you choose. Have a great trip.

Last May we went on the 53' catamaran Heavenly Days out of the Bolongo Bay Beach Beach Club on STT where we were staying. A group of about 24 (all ages) went to a bay (Salomon Bay?) on the NW shore of St. John with refreshments available during the whole trip. When we got there we snorkled for about 30 minutes then ate lunch on the boat. Round trip was about 4 hours as I remember, the crew was great, and it was one of the highlights of the trip. In Feb we will be staying on SJ, this time in a villa with friends.
