DD is a HS Senior this year and made the cast for her schools play productions. We were planning to vacation Feb 23-March 11. The biggest play of the year of course is Feb 25-27th. Then they leave on March 1st for a trip to San Francisco. Well my vacation is now screwed! She cried and said she didn't care what else she missed but she would DIE if she missed St. John. I told her no problem, I would just move our St. John week and it would be her graduation trip. Well I've never traveled to the Caribbean in June. Don't know what to expect. Is it much different from March? I'm thinking the first week in June. Is this considered off season? I understand this is the beginning of Hurrican Season. Is there anything else I should know?
Chris. We stayed the first week of June this year on St John. It showered a little each day and was totally overcast one day out of 8. Go for it....it's the beginning of the off season so you will save a ton of money. There wasnt the overwhelming crownds that we have seen when we stayed in Dec/Jan either. We had such a great time...we're heading back the first week on June 2006. We'll see you at Woody's for a Bushwhacker or Painkiller!!!!
What play is is? And who is she portraying?
It's a deal! So it looks like we will be real flexible, any particular day to fly out better then the others
She sounded off a list of the plays throughout the year while I was paying half attention but I think she said Peter Pan and I don't think they haven't been assigned parts for that one yet. She's really pchyched for the class as she had to go through torturous (embarassing) audition tryouts. You'll have to excuse my bragging but have to share my news. We also just found out that my little baby is a Homecoming Queen candidate! I think I was the one more excited because it's candidates are based on senior girls with the highest standards! I cried. She was just in shock.
We went once in early June and it was slightly rainer than other trips but still nothing to worry about. STJ is STJ all year so enjoy!
The old theatre saying is "There are no insignificant parts, just insignificant actors", meaning that EVERY part is important, yet some people, upon finding that they are not a lead, say "phooey on THIS!", and drop out. It's awesome your daughter is so dedicated! And from one theatre person to another, tel her to "break a leg"!
Chris, one thing to keep in mind if you go in June is that it will likely be a bit hotter and more humid than it is in March. AC becomes more of an issue, so we pretty much insist on it that time of year, at least for the bedrooms. Otherwise, we like it during the off season for the prices and relative lack of crowds.
We usually go in June and it's wonderful. As others have said, you'll save money and get the same water and beaches as those who spend the "high season" rates. Enjoy.
IslandTimer is right abotu the heat and humidity, though. I do find that June is much better than July and Aug...so it's still pretty good.
I bet you'll appreciate the "off season" rates in June becasue she'll already know where she's going to college and you might just have already started paying the bill by then.
Amen to that! And because the villa rates are so great at that time of year, we've decided to go for it. Any suggestions for a nice 2-4 bedroom with private pool/hot tub near Cruz Bay?
There are many 2-4 bedroom villas near Cruz Bay. What makes this area tricky is that many of the villas are older since this area has long been a popular destination for villa travelers and luxury homeowners. Many of the newer and more luxurious villas are going up fast in other areas.....so this area needs to be carefully sifted through for the best villas (the ARE new/newer fabulous villas in this area). Here are some of the best....
Watercliff - Contant Point (Azure Bay Estates): 4beds/4.5 baths
Aurora - Contact Point (Estate Contant): 4beds/4.5 baths
Palm Terrace is a condo complex of lovely 2,3 & 4 bedroom luxury condos with a shared pool.
Adagio - Great Cruz Bay: 3 beds/3.5 baths (beautiful home!!! but the pool is inside (??).
Mandavilla - Pocket Money Hill : 2 beds/2 baths

Some agencies have sites that allow you to search for a villa by area. An especially good one for this is Caribbean Villas, which has a handy index showing location, amenities, # BRs, etc.

Wow, thanks for the pics and advice you guys. The villa choices are really hard! I think recommendation by personal experience is how I'm leaning.
