We are considering renting a condo on St. Thomas and a bareboat for a few days so we can island hop. Do we need to go through customs each morning and evening as we go back and forth between St Thomas and BVI or is it possible to obtain clearance for several days to go back and forth?
I believe you must clear in and out each time but probably best to call both BVI and USVI Customs to be sure. If you're renting a bareboat to explore BVI, you'll find it time consuming to go back and forth between BVI and USVI, plus spend time checking in and out.
Best to decide how long you wish to stay in BVI and just stay there for an allotted time.
Good luck and enjoy.
Be sure to have your passports as required to visit BVI.
You will need to go through customs at your port of entry in the BVI (West End or Jost Van Dyke) and then clear back in through St John on the way back. If you are thinking of a charter boat, why not just stay on it? Talk to a charter yacht broker for full-service (captain and chef) or one of the bare boat companies if you are a capable skipper yourself.
