Say you live at Coral Bay and keep a boat there. You wish to travel in your boat to Virgin Gorda one day, Peter Bay the next and Norman Island the last. But you want to stay in your home at Coral Bay each night. Is there a legal way to clear Customs/Immigration in Virgin Gorda the first day and get clearance to do what I described above and not have to go through the hastle of clearing Customs/Immigration the six times (BVI and USVI each for three days)?
Do locals make visits like above without going through (ignoring) Customs/Immigration? If you leave Coral Bay you have to go to Tortola then go right back by Coral Bay to get to Norman Island. Then to return you have to pass your home and go way over to Cruz Bay to clear then way back over to Coral Bay each night.
Are there any provisions made by either the USVI or the BVI to make this process easier for those who have their own boat there and are residents of St John?
No. You must clear into the BVI for each trip and clear into the US in Cruz Bay on your way back. Failure to do so carries very high penalties. At one time you could clear by fax but no more. Now, technically you do have 24 hours to clear in but believe me it is worth checking into Cruz Bay each trip. Do not ignore Customs on either side.
Sorry for the bad news. It is the world we live in today.
Pamela
Thanks,
I was hoping it would be easier for residents.
