Is time needed to deal with customs when going and coming back from daysail to BVIs significant enough issue (i.e. taking away snorkel etc. time) to consider sailing only US waters?
Have also heard that you can check back into Cruz bay customs the next day after a daytrip to BVIs – true?
If you are going to do a BVI daytrip, to cover distance needed, seems like you would need to take a power boat out of Cruz or Red Hook, but can do a sailboat or cat from Coral Bay. Any recommendations from recent trips?
THANKS
I was on Captain Nautica the last week of December. We had about an hour delay in customs because they were apparently having a bad day and making it difficult for one of the passengers to get by. Apparently it is hit-or-miss in customs. They can be nice and accommodating one day and total a******** the next. The employees with Captain Nautica said they think they are important and like to feel in control of eveything. The Captain on our powerboat ended up having to get off the boat and head upstairs to speak to a supervisor. After all the problems and delays they caused, they ended up clearing her. By the way, the staff on the boat you go out on will take care of customs. You never have to get off the boat.
Sounds like a bit of a crap shoot but not terrible.
