I'll be heading down to STJ on Thursday and have been trying to follow the weather; weather is calling for scattered thunderstorms and showers. Has it been raining recently or are these quick passing rains? Hoping to get lots of sunshine!!

You'll be fine. I checked the weather report and it looks like the highest percentage would be 50%. When we were down a couple weeks ago, I too was worried, but believe me, chances of showers in the islands means nothing. You may see showers off in the distance across other islands, or you may get a a couple drops or a downpour that last for 5-10 minutes. It doesn't ruin anything at all.

I know you want alot of sunshine, but believe me, a cloudy day in the islands is just perfect for me. That sun can be sizzling hot on your skin. Wear SPF because a few in our group got really bad burns.

Have a great time!

Don't forget the rain is what makes the islands what they are. I have not been to VI yet, but on other islands, the rain has been very refreshing when it comes. I know on other Islands nearby, the rain usually comes early in the morning. When showers come through, they are very localized, so you can go to another part of the island for sunshine. My undestanding is that its the same in the VI.

2 fine local weather sites:
weathercarib.com -- the best
wunderground.com use zip 00801 - fairly accurate in the 12-48 hr. range + radar and earthquakes

We got rained on during our hike back from ram's head -- it was awesome. We were out at the tip and we could see the storm coming from so far away. What an awesome view. It was hot as the devil out there too, so a little rinse was nice.
