Hi all. leaving in 10 days!!!!! so excited.
have been keeping an eye on weather in St. croix via www.accuweather.com and it's looking very sticky, stormy, etc. how close to accurate is this info? is it uncomfortably humid right now?
Thanks,
topes
Weather here is fine, highs in the mid 80's lows in the low 70's. Fluffy white clouds, ocassional rain, fairly low humidity -- for us.
Do yourself a favor, don't look at the weather channel.
Here's a better site to check the local VI weather:
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ifps/MapClick.php?CityName=Christiansted&state=VI&site=SJU
They have actual radar (when its up) and radar never lies!
yeah, i don't got to the weather channel anymore, but accuweather.com seems to be fairly accurate for me here in maine....but even then, who knows. hence my question 🙂 thanks so much!
This is a fabulous time of year to be in the islands. Most of the year is fabulous, actually, but mid-December through the end of April is premium. We spent Xmas day out on the deck 15 feet from the Caribbean and enjoyed a wonderful breeze and beautiful blue skies punctuated by a few puffy white clouds. So nice!
We are St Croix bound....leaving from DC on Friday. My travel companion has been requesting my opinion regarding his wardrobe. What should I recommend? Shorts, Khaki pants, etc?
ANything you can tell me will help HIM!! smile

We have been on St. John since last Thursday, and the weather has been gorgeous. Mid-80s during the day, low to mid 70s at night. A couple of nights it's been cool enough to need a light sweater or sweatshirt. We had a couple of showers at night and one shower during the day, but otherwise mostly sunny. I would tell your friend to bring shorts, multiple bathing suits, T-shirts, sandals, a light jacket or sweatshirt, and maybe one pair of long pants and a nicer shirt for going out at night. On St. John we haven't needed any dressy clothes at all, but maybe St. Croix is different?
hi Franki
Amy is right about what to bring to wear. The weather is gorgeous this time of year! You don't really need dressy clothes for St Croix, unless you want to go to a really nice restaurant (Kendrick's or the Terrace Restaurant at the Buccaneer) but even then people dress pretty casually for the most part. For ladies, a skirt and blouse or nice pants and a shirt are fine. The only thing I would add is to bring pajama bottoms or sweatpants for the cool evenings, if it rains it gets "chilly" and the long pants are comforting at night.
You're right about the wardrobe for STX. It's the same as I took with me last time. And towards the end of a 9 day stay I felt dressed up for Kendrick's wearing a sport shirt(buttons) khaki dockers(long, pressed) and shoes (new sneakers, acually). Every where esle was shorts, sandles and pull over shirts.

everyone overpacks for STX. Shorts and tank tops and swimsuits are mostly what's needed. Add some sundresses for women. Men can throw on a short-sleeved button up shirt for evenings and you're good to go. Sandals everywhere. You might bring one pair of long slacks, but more than likely you'll never put them on unless everything else is dirty. Restaurants won't look at you badly if you arrive in shorts. Everyone else does!
This isn't an island that judges you by your wardrobe or your car. Life is casual... but lots of fun.
Go to the webcams on gotostcroix.com and see the weather firsthand. There's also a link for the local forecast.
STXREALTOR is right on about what to pack. Every time I go I take less stuff than the time before and still manage to overpack.I find that I always seem to stay in my bathing suit and a t.shirt for most of the day. Decent shorts and shirts for dinner at night. Count the # of days for the vacation and take 1 t.shirt,1 dress shirt and 1 pair of shorts per day. Two bathing suits with pockets,1 pair of sneakers,1 pair of sandals,1 pair of beach shoes, snorkel stuff and sunblock and you're set. We always stay at The Buccaneer and this list is fine for anything you may want to do. I guess you can always wash some shirts etc. if you had to. Most places have laundry facilities available.
p.s. underwear is optional.......
