Just returned last night from 7 days in St Thomas - stayed in building D at Crystal Cove Condos at Saphire Beach. The beach and location are great - really good snorkeling. We did not eat at any of the resturants at the resort but did most of our meals in the condo. We actually stayed in 2 different condos owned by the same person. The first one was clean but the bath rooms and kitichen were a bit dated and old looking. Clean but brown.gray tile grout. Ok but we would not recommend it to a friend. For the second half of our stay we moved to another condo in the same building owned by the same person. Very nice unit is good shape. Nothing negative to say about the second unit - would highly recommend. I think it just shows that each unit must be judged on its own. Some good, some not so good. The sunday bbq was $12 per person for a paper plate of food. Do not recommend eating at the bbq but the band was really good. Took the car ferry over to St John 4 days and never had a single problem. Tries to get on the 7:30 or 8:00 ferry and never had to wait more then 20 minutes. Same thing coming back. Came back anywhere between 2:00 and 5:00 each day and never had to wait. Would highly recommend taking the car ferry. Cost was $42 round trip. Cost on the people ferry for our group of 2 adults and 2 children was $12 each way for a total of $24 per day. So for an extra $18 we had the use of our car for the whole day on the island. And the car gave us the chance to visit between 3 and 5 different beaches per day. I would find it hard to stay at one beach for the whole day. Suggest - get the family season pass to trunk bay for $15 on your first day. Spend an houd there before 10:00 am, use the fresh water showers to rinse off (I loved getting the salt off my skin and cloths) go to 2 other beached for the afternoon and return to trunk at 4:00 for a final swim and rinse in the fresh water showers before changing into clean and dry cloths for your evening. The $15 is will worth it just to use the showers each afternoon and the crowds really thin out about 4:00 pm. Watermellon Cay had by far the best snorkeling - just watch out for the sea urchins - they are all over the rocky area and really hurt if you touch one. My 10 year old backed into one and got a minor prick on his ankle - did not swell up but hurt him bad for 15 minutes or so. I will try to do a full trip report later. Eric
