Just FYI, as of yesterday the Cruz Bay to CA ferry is still listed as "not operating until further notice."

I only mention this again because the only notice posted is an 8 X 11 piece of paper taped inside the ticket both, and even a number of locals were surprised and angered to find they couldn't get directly into town on the ferry. Word is there simply aren't enough passengers in the summer to make it worth running the boat. Prob'ly true.

Funny...

We only go during the summer and the CA ferry has never been down due to lack of passengers before. If passengers are down, the normal course of action would be to reduce the number of runs rather than shut down completely.
Sounds like an excuse to avoid losing the contract?

Aren't they still grabbing some of the private ferries?

Just got back from St. John, reason ferry is not running regularly from CA is they are in for much needed engine repair, and since it's slow season now is a good time to do it. The only thing that really is bad is getting from Red Hook to town, our driver almost hit 6 kids on bikes that WOULD NOT GET OUT OF THE ROAD! Take the $2.00 bus to town not to bad.
