I am overwhelmed by the choices for things to do! We are doing the day on our own,not taking any shore excursions. I am looking for a great beach, shopping and any not to be missed sights. Please advise! We will have 3 sons ages 7-14 with us.
Thank you!
Wendy
PS- What are the best shopping deals? Anything unique to St Thomas I should bring back as a souvenir?

Just my 2 cents, but here' s a suggested schedule.

Take a taxi to Mountaintop. It's a great view of Magens Bay from up above. They have some shopping but mostly go for the view. The kids will get a kick out of seeing it all from that high up. You can see many other islands as long as it's relatively clear. Do this from maybe 9am - 10:30am.

I'd go shopping next (unless you are purchasing expensive articles, then switch your schedule to shop last for security reasons). Go through Charlotte Amalie. Havensight has many of the same stores, but the memories are better from walking the streets of downtown Charlotte Amalie. I think your boys would enjoy downtown much better. Shop from 10:30 - 1:30.

Then take the taxi to Magens Bay. They've seen it from above - now let them see it "for real"! It's a great beach and you will all enjoy it. It will still be very bright and warm at 1:30 and you can enjoy several hours there before needing to taxi back to the ship for departure. Leave a little time going back as traffic does back up around Havensight. There's a nice snack shop with burgers, chicken sandwiches, and pizza that the boys would enjoy. Next to the snack shack is the bar area - that you might enjoy! Have a Bushwacker - it's a VI tradition!

I don't really think of anything unique to STT as a souvenier. Hook Bracelets are unique to the Virgin Islands and are more St. Croix or St. John oriented. Still - they are a great momento of time there.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

Wendy,

I'd take the boys to Coral Wold and Coki Beach. They are right next to each other. The snorkeling is the best on the island. Magens Bay is beautiful but not as much to do for the kids. It is my 9 year old daughter and 13 year old sons favorite beach for activities. Trunk Bay on STJ is their favorite for Boogie Boarding. The shopping is overwhelming, they have everything imaginable. Lots and lots of jewelry stores! You'll see what I mean. I usually pick up a conch shell or two for souveniers. They are the only shell that you are allowed to bring back to the states. Other shells and coral are a big no no. If you want to stay close to town, they have the tram that will take you up to paradise point.

I hope this helps. We leave tomorrow for 16 days and will be returning in May ourselves. Probably hanging around Coki Beach.

Molly
