I will be coming into St. Thomas on the Zaandam into Crown Bay. What is in Crown Bay
near the dock walking distance? If we want to go to St. John should we ferry out of Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie? What is the cost of taxi to the ferry? Thanks.

Not much is Crown Bay Marina. The only thing that may be of interest to you is Tickles Restaurant and Gourmet Gallery. A short walk up the way there is a shopping center with many fast food type of restaurants, Radio Shack, a pharmacy and a clothing store. The main shops are in down town Charlotte Amalie as well as Havensite Mall. You could walk to down town in about 20 minutes, give or take. There is more info on this site under getting around (St. Thomas) -ferry services that will give you the pricing and time frame for St. John. It would be easier for you to leave from down town.
I hope this helped some!
Have fun!

There is not much in Crown Bay for visitors. Like R said there is a grocery store and a restaurant and some other shops. The ferry for Water Island leaves from around there if visiting Water Island's Honeymoon Beach is of interest. Look under Water Island in the navigation at the top of this page.

You can take a taxi to Charlotte Amalie to shop. Or to do an island tour or whatever. If you want to go to St. John then Charlotte Amalie ferry is closer. Time will be about the same... (Red Hook 30 min for drive, 20 min for ferry, CA ferry, 8 min drive, 45 ferry ride.) The cost for CA will be cheaper for one person by a couple dollars. And for more then one person work out to be about the same. Decide based on whether you want to spend more time in a taxi then a ferry (if you get sea sick don't choose the longer ferry ride - I had several people say the ride of 45 was too long and they got sick).

The ferry information and taxi information for each island is on this site. Click on the appropriate island at the top of the page an browse through the sections.
