I purchased my tickets for our 7/13-7/23 trip! I had been watching it for awhile with the intention of buying if/when a fare sale came about. This morning when I checked, it was $31.50 round trip! Yes, $31.50 - no typo! So I bought it right then and there, of course. I honestly didn't expect the sale to go through, but it did, seats and all. I received an email purchase confirmation shortly afterwards. US Airways has since fixed the site and the fare is now $524.50, but I still have not heard from them. I know this is too good to be true, and I fully expect a call from USAirways. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?

It was obvously a mistake, but I think legally the airline is obligated to honor that fare...lucky you, in the right place at the righ time!!

That's what I'm wondering - are they obligated? It was technically their offer, which I accepted. Even so, still seems WAY too good to be true. We'll see...

Congratulations, according to my DH (a weekly business traveller before we moved to STJ) if you have a ticket - you have a ticket- and as you have a confirmation you do - regardless of the price you paid 🙂 🙂

I received a Travelocity FareWatch sent at 2 am this morning for a fare of $5+ from Long Island, NY. Unfortunately, I didn't see it till 8 pm this evening and, of course, it was gone. Good for you for catching it.

The confirmation did include a ticket number, and they did charge my credit card. I am keeping my fingers crossed...

And I thought $520/ticket out of Boston was a deal when I booked last month!

I got the same Travelocity Farewatch yesterday too - $5 from Pittsburgh to STT. When I tried to get it to come up it didn't work though 🙁

Is it any wonder why US Airways is not long for this world? Congratulations and it's a good thing your trip is in July...I doubt they'll be flying during the winter season at this rate.

Chris @ Work - No kidding! I hope they last until July. I still haven't heard from them - so far, so good!

Just went to the USAirways website (I have to keep checking to see if my reservation is still there - it is 🙂 ). Then entire site has been revamped! Gotta wonder whether yesterday's technical difficulties had anything to do with getting this new site up and running.

Wow!!! Yes, I do think they have to honor that price. I know that there are web sites that specifically look for these types of fares (whether real or mistakes) and people do in fact book them and are charged those low prices. Wow again! Wow wow wow! I'm so jealous! Keep us updated if there's any problems with it!

I have flown only USAirways for the last 10 years or so out of Maine. When I went to book a flight out of Portland they were just over-priced compared to the market. It was cheaper to book a flight on American out of Boston then to fly out of Portland, close to home. Wish I had seen that deal!

I heard about a similar mistake a year or two ago on another airline. They had to honor the fare and the tickets, and apparently they did. Lucky you! 🙂

I just received this email from Travelocity re the "mistake" in published fare;

Sometimes "too good to be true" really is. Some of you may have felt that way when you received last Sunday's FareWatcherSM email featuring a $5 fare to the Caribbean. We apologize for this-the fares were miscoded and unfortunately not available for purchase (all of us here wish $5 fares to the Caribbean really existed too).

We know you can shop with any travel provider, so we take it seriously when you choose to shop with us. Please accept our sincere apology for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We're working to make changes to prevent this type of issue from happening in future FareWatcher emails.

Sincerely,

The Travelocity Team

I booked this fare directly through USAirways, not Travelocity. So far I haven't heard from them; my booking appears in their reservation system, and they charged my credit card as well. Right now my philosophy is that no news is good news...
