We are first time island visitors. Arriving end of June for 1 week. We are in our early 50's with kids (?!) in tow - 19 and 21.
We are looking for kick back time and the kids want to have fun! We are considering renting a 2 Bd/ 2 Ba condo at either the Elysian Resort in Cowpet Bay or from the Watergate in Bolongo Bay. Which do ya'll recommend. We will be renting a car for exploration.
Thanks for any and all advice!

I stayed at a 2 bed condo on Cowpet Bay West, near the Elysian. We visited Bolongo Bay for the day. I would stay at the Watergate if I ever go back. Close to Bolongo Hotel with water sports, restaurants, etc.

Good to hear - I was kind of leaning towards the Watergate...

i would vote for bolongo also .... close to iggies, mims and the pool bar at bolongo - lots to do and friendly staff at bolongo ... if you rent your condo through bolongo you have access to their water toys, pools, signing privilege at the restaurants, etc - if you rent from a watergate owner directly, you won't have access to those things

I go with Bolongo also. More to do that is right there at the resort. Cowpet is nice but quieter.

I prefer Cowpet because of the restaurants right there in Roberts and Ainsleys. With the Elysian you would also be really close to Secret Harbor Beach which is much better then Cowpet or Bolongo IMHO and your also a short drive from Red Hook for your 19 and 21 yr old and the ferry's to St. John would also be only 5 minutes away.

We've stayed at Elysian and actually had a great time - but we're pretty content to hang out on the beach most days -- we're in our 50's and enjoy it. It's very close to Red Hook and there's lots to do there. We've gone to Bolongo to eat at Iggies - not one of my favorite Island restaurants - but fun - there always seems to be high surf rolling in at Bolongo - it's very quiet at Elysian. Either way, with a car you'll be able to enjoy yourself at both. My guess is there's probably more for your kids at Bolongo though.

Thanks everyone for the advice! We are sooo looking forward to June! We are still open to suggestions. We've booked our flight - but not the condo yet!

Unless there's a particular reason that you've been looking at a choice between Elysian and Watergate, have you looked at www.vrbo.com? Sapphire Beach is one of the most beautiful and the general location is excellent with easy access to Red Hook and the inter-island ferry terminal. Cheers!
