I know this topic has been covered ad naseum on this board and several others, but I again wanted to tap into the massive resources of this board.

My question is which of the above rental agencies do you guys prefer. From all of my research these are the two companies that tend to come up most frequently as being reputable. Courtesty is a bit further (it looks like 3-4 blocks) from the dock, but they are more flexible on arrival times and a bit cheaper.

St. John is right at the dock but advises clients arriving after 5 to take a taxi and come back the next day. Staying on the east side, this would not be ideal at all. I don't like leaving things like this up to chance when traveling.

Also, being in the web business I felt that Courtesy represented themselves much more professionally online. I hate to nitpick, but it was my first impression of this company

What is the overall concensus here. I know both are highly regarded on the island.

I also noticed that the Vitara seemed to have a soft top on the courtesy site. Is this similar to the old Trackers and if so are these tops allowed to be removed by the agencies (I know the Wrangler tops are a bit of a sticking point).

IMHO, I wouldn't fault Virgin Islanders for lack of a web presence. Many people are not internet savvy and making choices based on a web page may get you someone who knows that but not how to do business in the Virgin Islands!

The "take a cab" attitude would be enough for me. We have always used Penn’s. If you arrive after they close they leave the keys and you come back the next day to take care of the paperwork. No web site. No credit card needed when you make a reservation. They barely ask your name. Somehow it always seems to work out.

IslandTimer,

I agree with your experience, I have used Thomas@ Hospitality Rental for many trips. Verylow key, keys are left for you, come back the next day and do paper work.

Are the vehicles top of the line new, no, but they get us to where we are going anc back. When in Cruz Bay we have a place to park, and plus Thomas is just a great person.

Where do I find Thomas or Penn's? Do you have telephone numbers or e-mail information?

You can reach Thomas matthews at Hospitality Car Rental, 340-693-9160/340-693-9067.

Good Luck, he is located just beyond the post office, next to a stand that sells fruit smoothies.

I called Thomas and he says he does not "promote" parking at his lot in town. Were you able to park at his lot and where is it?
