Hi all:
We’re going to be on St Thomas in Sept for a few days and would like to find another couple to split the costs with us and rent a boat and captain for a day out on the water. We’ve done this before in St Thomas, but it’s getting too expensive for us alone. We usually go over thru the BV’s.
We’re seniors and don’t swim or snorkel. We just enjoy being out on the water and stopping and walking around (like at the Baths in Virgin Gorda0 or on Tortola, having lunch and drinks.
With boat rental, captain, gasoline,it should be about $300-350 per couple for a full day. If interested, you can send me a message. The date we’d want to go is either Mon, Sept 17th or Tuesday, Sept 18th. Also, we wouldn’t reserve until we arrive and see what the water conditions are like. Thanks.
Sandy

Sandy: I'm going to give you a "bump" here and suggest that some forum contributors suggest some alternatives.

The fact that you posted as being "seniors" and less interested in swimming and snorkelling than just enjoying being on the water was probably a bit of a negative to the regular crowd who frequent forums such as these. At over 60 I consider myself most fortunate to still be able to swim like a fish and snorkel to my heart's content but my prime downtime at this point in my life is to be on or very close to the water, chilling out, reading, and being QUIET.

There are some smaller operations which take just a few people out on the sort of jaunt that you're looking for and maybe you can get some input from this forum?

Sandy, you might contact www.pocketyachtsvi.com and speak to Dan or Jady. Or maybe talk to Jake at 340-775-1151 about his Morningstar yacht deal. Tell him exaclty what you're looking for and also tell him that "the Old Tart" directed you. If they can' t help you they can probably direct you to someone else.

All the best to you. Cheers!

Thanks so much STT Resident!! I really appreciate your help. I just looked at the website for Pocketyachts and they seem to have a little bit lower rates than we were looking at. So maybe....
I'll call them both tomorrow.

I knew when I posted it that being seniors and non-swimmers and such would be a negative. But I had hoped that we might meet up with some other like-minded folks. We've taken a day trip the last 2 times we were in STT ('91 & '97), but now it's just getting a little too expensive to justify the cost by ourselves.

There's still a little time, so maybe we'll meet some other people yet. I've posted on here, TTOL and Trip Advisor.

Thanks again for your help.

STT Resident, I sent emails to the 2 places whose names you gave me, but they never responded. I told them that I got their name from the "old tart". Do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

Might be best to telephone rather than email. You could also try Ron or Carol at S/V Alaunt - toll-free number 1-888-DAYSAIL, tel 340-772-6044 or email [email protected]. Remember this is "slow time" too (apart from it usually being Caribbean time!) so a speedy response sometimes isn't as speedy as you might hope for. Hope this helps.

Okay, thanks again STT Resident. Guess I WAS getting a little "antsy",lol.
We've been planning this trip for awhile, and now that it's getting close, I'm getting excited. This trip is to celebrate our 35th anniversary. We're going to St Maarten for a week and then over to St Thomas for 4 days. It's been over 10 yrs since we've been down to the Caribbean, but we always loved it there.

Okay, I'll TRY to be patient (grin). Thanks again!!

Let us know how you fared. Saw Dan and Jady from pocket yachts last night and Dan said he either spoke to you or emailed you. Cheers!
