HAHAHAH.... ok so we figure there isn't really a Costco on the island, but we need advice on where to buy groceries. Are there "grocery stores"? We fly in Wednesday (11/3) morning and are staying at a beautiful villa on St. John at Cruz Bay!

WE ARE SOOO EXCITED!

We have Cost U Less, similar if not the same. There are grocery stores too! I would recommend Food Center on the road to Red Hook. Some recommend Marina Market in Red Hook for meats. St. John has a nice grocery store called Starfish.

To Ronnie,

Thanks for the advice. You may have saved our poor tummies from going hungry. We appreciate any help we can get. Thanks again.

Also on STJ, the Dolphin Market in Cruz Bay is very good.

We just returned to Reno, NV from our incredible trip to Cruz Bay on St. John. WOW! Met some great locals (Bill the diving instructor and Mango the bald local with great advice. hahahahha). We did do a lot of our shopping at Dolphin. THANK YOU! Fresh food and what a great wine selection! We highly reccommend it!

Remember : STAY LEFT!

We always buy our meats at home (Sam's Club, BJ's, etc.). Keep them in our freezer until the morning of the flight. Then, pack them in a cooler, duct tape the cooler, and slide it in a duffel bag. Check it as luggage. Food is still frozen when we arrive in STT. Everything else we buy at the Pueblo, Cost-U-Less, or whatever.

I spoke to the manager at Cost-U-less; they buy from Costco in Miami, so you will see Kirkland items - like frozen bagels. For years I have been bringing bags of frozen shrimp on my holiday, and they seemed to have the same ones at the same price; one certainly can't depend on having the same items as in the US - e.g. the cheese selection is not as good as at Costco.

It is on one of the main routes to Red Hook, so if you rent a car at the airport and have the time before the car ferry, a stop there would be worthwhile.
