What is the cost for clearing BVI customs. I plan to go by boat for the day. It will be my wife and I and our two sons. I am also considering taking the ferry from St John to Jost for the day. Is the cost $20 per person each time? Get expensive fast for 4 people. Thanks

I'm still confused on this also. Last year we went over to Jost on a friends boat and customs was $3.00 per person. I was thrilled as I was expecting it to be the $20 that you see the charter boats charge for customs. There are 4 of us also and it does get expensive! $12.00 was a lot better than $80.00!!

If you can ever figure out the fees, I hope you will post them! 🙂 Every time we go over, it seems we get charged something different. I know there is a different charge for a charter boat vs a private boat, an overitme charge on weekends and probably some other charges. Also, make sure you have change including coins.

I go over all the time meaning at least once a month and I get charged something different each time. Last time I went over with 3 people and the total was $15, and I've been before with 4 people and it was $60. So if you can figure it out you are a better man than me. I think if he forgot to pay his electric bill and needs some extra cash he will charge you a bit more.

Just be very friendly when you go in, good morning, etc. strike up a convo etc. That helps.

Have a blast!

PS. DO NOT put captain ANYWHERE on your customs forms. Everyone is a passenger. That helps too, when they see Captain they think charter sometimes.

Stu - thanks for the info - at least it sounds like it should be less than $20 per person. I am renting from Pocket Yachts. I think I saw earlier that you rent from them. Any suggestions in dealing with them? Are they easy to deal with and what time can I expect to get out. Thanks

Pcoket Yachts is good when the waves are down, his boats will save you some serious money at the gas pump when you refuel.

Dan is a great guy. If you call him and tell him you want to get out early he will meet you at the dock whenever you want. He is pretty flexible which is what I like, but he can also be a bit flaky so call the night before to confirm, like, hey Dan just want to make sure we are all set for 7am tomorrow morning.

He gets you going right away though, it takes only about 5-10 minutes to fill the paperwork and head out.

I hope this helps and he has free snorkel equipment and a nice large cooler on the boat.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Have fun, and don't take the ferry to Jost, waste of time and money. Take the kids to snorkel with the turtles at Honeymoon beach off St John.
