HELP! My partner and I are planning our first trip to St. Croix in August. We were prepared to stay at CBC, until we read that it is no longer being marketed as a predominantly gay resort. We've suffered discrimination in the past from straight families with young children, who give dirty looks if we hold hands or give the usual public displays of affection that hetero couples enjoy. Also, we read that there were screaming children splashing around in the pool at the Cormorant in a recent post. We love children, but not while on vacation!
The Sandcastle On The Beach hotel in F'sted caters to gay couples, and is about the same price as the Cormorant. Should we stay there instead? Has anyone stayed at both or can you compare/describe the rooms (the deluxe beachfront patio at Cormorant vs. the beachside luxury villa at the Sandcastle). THANK YOU!
Haven’t stayed at either. Sandcastle strikes me as a bit more gay/lesbian, but both are mixed. I’ve stopped by the Cormorant about five times and don’t recall seeing any kids in the pool. I’ve seen some at the beach with their parents. They weren’t rowdy. People who go to these hotels expect to see gay men and lesbians. I’d be very surprised if you have any problems with low-key signs of affection.
I agree with FOG-- we ate lunch at both and saw mainly hetero couples at Cormorant eating, but was definately more gay/lesbian couples at Sandcastles. Both places had kids with parents swimming at the beach. Everyone seemed VERY friendly at both places. I really feel like you would be comfortable at either place.
We went out to Carambola on two occations and saw a couple of gay/lesbian couples sunning out on the beach... don't know if they were staying there or not. It's very nice, great beach.
Thanks for the info.!
