What is Coral Bay like, in general?
I have heard it has some nice bars and places to eat.
Is it safe to walk around at night/ safe in general?
I am an avid traveller and understand that when travelling you always have to be aware of your surroundings, but i am trying to get a feel for the surrounding befoe i book the hotel.
I find the best way to find out if it is what you want is to ask locals of those who have been before, so any advice will be just fine.
thanks, p
Beachgirl,
I made my first visit to SJ in 1978 and have been going back ever since. For the past 5 years we have stayed on the Mt. above Coral Bay.
Never any problems, have never had any issues of concern other than navigating the road to the villa in the rain. Yes there is crime there like any where else. I think that becuase of the size of the island when something does happen it is known all over the island rather quickly.
As far as Coral Bay, not really much there, a couple of bars, small grocery store, some shops not much.
The many folks I have met there, locals and travelers have been extremely kind and thoughtful.
It has changed since 1978, not nearly as many goats running around and many more vehicles. Thus that means more people to contend with and less goats to stop for in the road.
Use the same type of common sense you would any where else and you will be fine, not you will think you have found a small slice of heaven.
