*We have rented a house for a week on St John and we were wondering about how expensive food is to buy on the island and should we bring some from home? How expensive is it to shop there?

We visit St. John approx. 2 times per year and usually stay in a condo. My experience is that food costs approximately 25 to 50%more in the grocery stores compared to where we live stateside. However, selection and availability is good. The following link found under the the Moving Guide, infrastructure, cost of livoing provided good info on food costs by item.

We usually have breakfast in, make a sandwich for the beach, and enjoy dinner out.

The recommendation made to visit the cost of food list that was provided in the post above is a good one. You can then see how much more/same/less? things are. Eating breakfast in, lunch a picnic or a light meal at a restaurant and then eat out for dinner some nights maybe make something a couple nights is good.
