Hi All

I have just gotten off the phone with Margaret at the front desk at Secret Harbor. She informed me that work was being done on some of the bathrooms and kitchens at the property, and that it's ongoing for the time being - when I asked if it was noisy work, she replied "not all the time". 😮

So has anyone been there during this work? I was planning on staying the week after Thanksgiving, but if there will be hammering and banging every weekday I will (sadly) need to make alternate plans.

Thanks.

Mark

Your post got my attention. We were considering Secret Harbour. I did some research on Trip Advisor. All the suites are individually owned and work through a rental program. Some suites are very nice while others are below par and in need of work. A lot of conflicting reviews. The best reviews were from people that complained and were given complimentary meals and free nights. The worst reviews were from people in suites in need of repairs. It also seems a lot of folks ended up in buildings they did not enjoy.....as far as views and beachfront goes. For the price......and now news of continuing construction.....I've made my decision. Nothing worse than contractors at a resort during your vacation. It has happened to me before and I hate it.

Hi Rondi

I agree about contractors at a resort - it's happened to me many times as well, and it has become one of my first questions when booking a room. It seems that SH has many fans on this site, and the beach looks lovely, but "hard" renovations can be deadly to a vacation. However, it will be good news for the people who get to stay in those rooms/suites after the renovations are complete!

We were just told that construction will not be taking place over winter months. We all need the manager to weigh in here and let us know. Some units do need updating, as at many places, but who needs banging at 8 in the morning on vacation! I am hoping we can get an honest answer posted from Ric or someone at SH..

I am awaiting a return call from the Operations Manager at SH. Will post the response I get (if I get one...). I have until next Monday to cancel without penalty, so I'm not going to wait too much longer, much as I was looking forward to staying there....

I did get a call yesterday from Julia, the Ops Mgr at SH. She assured me that there was no significant work going on anymore, and that the property would still be peaceful and quiet at this time. So - there you have the update.

Hi Mike,

It sounds like it worked out for you. I've stayed at SH several times and I want quiet also. I hope you find it to be what you want. Julia has never let me down and has resolved a couple of issues in the past. Do give us a post after your vacation.......I'm about a week behind you, so eager to hear how it all works out!

Hey Mark
How did it go? I'm about to go myself, and am hoping what Julia told you was true. How was your vacation?

I really don't think you have anything to worry about. There is no major construction going on at SH and I've heard nothing from any guests or residents or the restaurant owner about any kind of disruption whatsoever. Was there for breakfast last week and it was as peaceful as ever. Interior remodeling of kitchen and bathroom units isn't exactly akin to jack-hammering or bulldozing and, with all due respect, I think a lot of fuss has been made about nothing much. Cheers!

Sorry not to have checked in sooner all, I came back with the flu and so got off track....But yes indeed, STT Resident, there was no discernible construction work and no noise other than the usual maintenance work that goes on all the time at seaside resorts. HOWEVER - stay away from Building 4 for the time being, as there was room renovation happening there, and some drilling/sawing/hammering noise did make its way through to my room on the ground floor of that building. Other than that all was lovely - and a bonus was that with the north wind/cold front that was filtering down to the USVI a couple of weeks ago, the sheltered southern exposure of Secret Harbor provided calm waters throughout. Spent a day at Sapphire, and though the water was gorgeous, it was too rough on the exposed northern shore for easy snorkeling.

I'm so glad all went well for you and that you enjoyed your visit - and happy that the 'flu only hit you when you got back home! We had a nasty 'flu bug going through here and a lot of people felt wretched for a few days but that's not abnormal for this time of year when the influx of visitors bring down stateside bugs to plague us! In any case, glad you're up to par again, hope you have a very Merry Christmas and, as winter weather socks in around you, that you'll soon be making plans for your next visit here. Cheers!

My next trip to the islands will be to San Juan and Nevis 😮 in February, but the USVI is never off my radar screen! 😎
