Where is the BEST place to go for conch fitters in STT? STJ? We live in the Midwest and can't get good seafood anywhere. Does anyone know of any national or regional chain that serves conch?
Yeah, here's the deal: most of the restaurants use about 10 grams of actual conch and 5 kilos of everything else so that most you taste, or chew, is the other stuff. The best place I found for conch fritters were the local, West Indian, restaurants and the less the "charm" the better the fritters. There's a lady who sells food out of her cart by the tax stands on STJ's watefront and she had some kick a$$ conch and whelk! If you haven't had whelk, and you like conch, you'll be in for a treat. Every year we go to STJ, I made sure to stop by here shack. Awesome hot sauce....she probably makes the best "home food" I tasted on the island.Ryan wrote:
Cuzzin's on St Thomas has great conch fritters as well as curried conch and conch in butter sauce. Their conch is not chewy like it is some places!!
I concur with East Ender, Cuzzin's conch cuisine supreme. Wary on the hot sauce--the heat builds slow and lingers. Glad to have kicked back a few rum and coke before I found that out.
Plus try the mutton or oaxtails. sure to please.
Does Vie do conch? I missed her shack by a day. Incentive for next trip.
