Does anyone there know if it is legal to carry a concealed weapon on STT?? I know it is an odd question, but I have a CCW license and it has actually saved my family once. I know it is not approved by all, but.....

You can check your gun in your checked luggage it is done all the time you just have to tell them you have it and sign a tag saying it is unloaded. I fly all the time with guns for competitions.

Thanks WaterGuy, that I did know but the airlines do check it to be sure it is unloaded. had someone going to Orlando next to me & he was going down hunting & had rifles & a shotgun. He had to go through a special security check point though after checking in with United after they check it.
But I wouldn't take a gun to the islands no matter what. If they want my money they can have it. MHO

As Ronnie posted above:

"If he did bring a weapon here and carried it unlicensed locally he could be arrested for an illegal firearm. You have to turn your firearm over to the police or licensed firearms dealer within 24 hours after your arrival to the island. You will get it back when licensed. I am sure there are some exceptions for Federal agents, but not because you are licensed back home."

I got passed security showing my federal law enrorcement officer credentials. Your information regarding federal law enforcement carry is dead wrong. I gave an opinion and clearly statef it shouldn't be taken as anything more than an opinion.

Sorry I thought opinions for all were welcome here.

MattB: Now I'm totally confused. At no time in this thread did you mention until now that you were a "federal law enforcement officer." Your initial two-liner naturally raised some questions from both locals and visitors who were unaware of any special circumstances which might apply to you.

And to whom is your last post directed when you say, "Your information regarding federal law enforcement carry is dead wrong...?"

Finally, you said you witnessed someone being robbed at an ATM in Red Hook. Since you are a federal law enforcement officer, legally in possession of a firearm in the territory, can we assume that you foiled the mugger and/or otherwise rendered assistance?

Opinions are always welcome and I realize that the written word is often misconstrued but the comments you levelled at a couple of posters who proffered THEIR opinions did seem a bit rude.

MattB:
I'm not a local...but how old are you? Any Federal Law Enforcement Officer had better be doing their job than slamming opinions on a forum board. I for one, am not buying your story. Dude with the heighten security at all US airports this month, you've got too much time on your hands!

...and that's just my opinion!

Its not some exceptions for federal agents. Local police have no jurisdiction over feds...local pd are low on the totem pole. Feds can carry their guns anywhere in the us.

That being said I still think he was crazy to bring it. Local police are incredibly corrupt and could have made his family trip a nightmare.

Obvious,
Here's the question...was he actually there on a family trip...I, for one, don't think so.

Okay, as I said before, let's move on to the theme of partying!

Hey folks,

Matt B's a troll. How much more obvious does it have to be?

Obvious: This whole thread was about being able to carry a concealed weapon while visiting here if one had a license to carry back home. The answer is no. Enforcement officers, whether federal or state or county, are not part of the answer. I could give a rats you know what about them carrying here or not. It is not my concern if they can or can't It is not my concern of who, because of what branch of government they belong to and what they can or can't do. Again, the question was about someone with a stateside license bringing it here. Any law enforcement officer would know the answer for themselves and certainly would not be asking it on a travel forum.

I agree with everything you said Ron, but the above statement.

Believe me, my Brother has been a police officer for over 30 years and is now a chief of police, but I'd bet anything that if he was traveling to the Caribbean or anywhere outside of the country, if he didn't investigate it, he wouldn't know. Not that he would bring his weapon with him, but in the town where he lives, he's allowed to carry his weapon off duty unlike the town I live in, where they are not. The reason why the question was asked in the first place is because this board has alot of vacationers AND alot of local STT residents.....where else could someone come and ask if they didn't know???

If some people think that the original question was just to stir something up, then why bother posting back to him. That's the part I don't get.

The original poster, Roger, asked a simple and intelligent question which was duly responded to. It was MattB who started stirring things up...

Here's a link to a site that chronicles a variety of online pathological personalities:

http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/index.htm

The author obviously had way too much time on his hands, but it's useful in identifying different manifestations of what I usually just lump into the "troll" category.

And, of course, all I can do is not respond to them. Eventually they get bored and move on to some other forum or chat.

A local police chief from a town in the states may not know whether s/he may carry concealed in the USVI but Federal law enforcement officers certainly know whether they may carry concealed here and any hoops they must jump through to do so.

Weary,

You are hilarious! I have to read your posts every time. I haven't read your link yet, but you an eyeore in my book. 🙂 I swear in my head is Eyeore's voice coming thru your posts. (I mean this all in a good way, but if you follow the board like I do, you might be able to understand my crazy talk) Are you Islander in disguise?

Matt B,

I am glad to know I 'floored' you.

Weary - that link is brilliant and I love the art, too - everyone should read it. The only problem is that I saw a bit of myself in everyone (well, not ALL but many!) Very funny and gave me a good hearty chuckle. Thanks.

RSHOP and cheers!

I liked that website, but I also didn't. It did he me to figure out what everybody else was upto and recognize it fairly quickly. But I hadn't realized that there were some people who saw right through me and knew what my game was.

It's a case of being able to get over on some of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.
