I was just wondering if there was parking at Compass Point Marina?
I am taking a BVI excursion which is leaving from there.
Thanks!
yes pleanty
The question about Compass Point Marina has me wondering if there are any restaurants there anymore. I know that Dottie's closed. Is Patrick's (at least I think it was Patrick's) still open? Has anything else gone in down there?
Gerie
Not sure what the name was, but I that wonderful Cajun Place on the old steamboat is gone.
It was by far the best place for the $s spent on STT
Man that place was so good! No better outside of N.O
I think it closed in early 2007
Gerie: No, no restaurants there anymore. You can buy Dottie's cookbook from her and try to recreate some of her wonderful meals....
TomB: The old steamboat was Puzzles, has had several reincarnations, but alas, nothing at this time.
Really, Puzzles was the name? It was two dudes that got run out of NO after Katrina.
The food was great!
I had heard that when they made a success out of it - the landlord tripled the rent and they went back to NO
EE,
Do you know how Dottie's cookbook can be ordered?
Gerie
Tom8 - the original was "Puzzles" and that was at Saga Haven Marina, not Compass Point. The two young men who opened the Cajun restaurant there lasted all of a couple of months. The version you heard about their failure isn't entirely true but then most island gossip and hearsay falls under that umbrella! Where Patrick's (formerly Raffles) was at Compass Point is now office space. Patrick is now the Executive Chef at Bolongo. Cheers!
Thanks for the correction on the location
I think I got the two marina's reversed
Compass is where Limnos goes out of ...Right????
Saga Haven is where the concrete garages are roadside, and you walk down some steps to get to the docks...???
I am sure the story of their departure has multiple sides 😀
Gerie: I know people who have gone over to her apt and purchased it. I have also heard that some local shops carry it. Someone said the Barefoot Buddha has it. I will try to ask around.
TomB: Yes, you are right. From the water they are very close. And I thought the cajun people went over to Pavilions and Pools after Puzzles, but don't know what happened after that. As the Anchor Drags...
..... As the Anchor Drags...
That is so freakn' weird. When I wrote "I am sure the story of their departure has multiple sides :D" - I had followed it with As the Anchor Drags, the drama and Soap Opera of STT. But I decided to erase that. And then for you to come back with As the Anchor Drags I flipped out.
The first time I heard that expression was in 1987. We chartered a 64' boat out of what in now the HavenSight. I guess it was called that then to, but there was a Ramada Inn there. BTW they had great hamburgers at the end of the dock. The boat was called the Rising Sun, and was destroyed in Hurricane Hugo I think. On the last night we anchored in Christmas Cove and the crew was dreading the drama when they returned. One of the mates had broken up with her boyfriend. The Capt, Jim Smith was his name, made the comment that on the docks there is a daily soap opera that is called "As the Anchor Drags"
Thanks for the memory
Yes. Havensight was called Havensight in '87 and still is!
It was actually Karl (he was selling his food outside Mandahl Market for a long time) who went to Pavilions and Pools to do his Cajun thing but I guess that didn't work out and that space keeps changing hands so fast I can't keep track! As the island turns...
STT Resident,
Thanks for the update on Compass Point Marina and its restaurants. For the life of me I could not remember the name of Raffles. I appreciate that memory plug.
East Ender,
Thanks for checking on the cookbook for me. I can't imagine knocking on Dottie's door to ask for it.
