What's happening at Cokie? I hear that renovations are starting and the vendors will be pushed off the beach for a while. We're flying in to STT for the day April 30th and wanted to spend some time at Cokie. Will the work be done by then? Should we plan on another beach?

The renewal plans at Coki are still being discussed at various levels - the road work there has started - the vendor relocation is still unresolved - no demolition evident last weekend. The overall plan has an 18 month timetable and island time usually stretches any such estimate beyond reasonable prediction.
Keep your visit plans on track and if you aren't happy with Coki on arrival both Lindqvist and Sapphire beaches are only a few minutes away [ by car or taxi] and beautiful alternatives.

Hello clearly,

There have been changes at Lindquist. Its part of a park now, like Magens Bay, amenities are in the plans. Take a look at the Lindquist/Lindqvist/Smith Bay Park article we did a couple months ago for information.

Lindqvist has always been a "locals" beach. Couldn't tell you how many birthday and company parties we had out there. It was always a good alternate to Magens becuse power was usually shut off at the sheds at about 6. At Lindqvist, we would bring a generator and party well into the evening. Downside was knowing that you are planning a party for a lot of people and not knowing if the wanted spot on the cement slab would be taken by the time you get there so we would always send the big truck out early in teh morning at about 6:30, 7am to secure the spot! lol

Good times.

I don't get the government. I am happy to see that they solvedd the issues with the land ownders. It is my understanding that a few years ago, they put up fences on the dirt road blocking access. Which BTW is perfectly legal. In the law that is written, nothing is said about actuall beach access. If you can get there by helicopter (hypothetically of course) or boat, you're fine.

Does magens offer life guards anymore?

Magens does have lifeguards anytime I have ever been there - they also operate the Lindqvist Beach with a lifeguard on duty - Brewers Bay has a lifeguard on occasion, it seems.
