*Hello, my wife and I with 2 friends will be visiting St Thomas in Jan on HAL cruise ship. I am looking at either Coki or Sapphire for the day. The tricky thing is my wife has MS and uses a wheelchair. So we would like a beach with some modern facilities. Its not a problem to get her to the beach, we are young and I can carry her. She does swim and is looking forward to it. If you have any info that would help I would appreciate it. Our friends really like to snorkle so that is something to think about. Thanks tom

Hi Tom, I would recommend Sapphire beach. It has all the modern facilities and from the outdoor bar area it is only one step down to the beach. From the parking lot to the bar, restaurant, gift shop and bathrooms there are no stairs. Snorkeling is good and IMHO the beach is beautiful..
Enjoy your visit,
Bill

If you have a chance to take in Coki you might want to try it for a short time. The fish there are plentiful due to all the people feeding them. It isn't that far from Sapphire and might be a nice diversion for a few.

Hello Tom,

For ease of wheelchair access, more modern facilities including a much nicer bathroom and good snorkeling I would say Sapphire Beach. Coki Beach has great snorkeling but doesn't fit the bill for the modern facilities/bathrooms in my opinion.

If you plan to spend the whole day at the beach then perhaps you could head to Coki beach first, your friends can snorkel there. If you and your wife want you might visit Coral World www.coralworldvi.com while your friends snorkel or you can visit Coki Beach also (it will be a bit more of a challenge with the chair but can be done.) The plus with visiting Coral World is you can use their restrooms/facilities if need be. Then the group can head to Sapphire together for the rest of the day.
