We were on the island last summer when the accident, involving the cruise ship passenger happened at Coki Beach. We love Coki, however, out of respect for the situation we did not visit Coki last summer. We are wanting to go there this coming trip. How is it currently? Being from a big city, Los Angeles, I am well aware that bad things can happen anywhere and that you have to be careful wherever you are. Coki is beautiful and the banana drinks from Idaho are the best!

so, from the local experts, has the traffic to Coki gotten back to normal? Is there a police presence? Do you recommend going or not?

Thanks, counting down the days until we are in the beautiful USVI again!!

i have not been lately, but there was a revitalization and cleanup soon after. i figured i'd try to find out if there were any reviews online, and there are plenty, even recent ones. interestingly, they often differ like night and day. it's as though the personality of the person is the prism through which the local vendors, neighborhood, and amenities are perceived.

so, some find the neighborhood sketchy and the vendors overly solicitous, while some feel free to drive on through, and make a new friend (or at least someone who will feel beholden to take you under wing in the interest of commerce). nearby romano's restaurant is considered a 5-star outlet, and mr. romano likes being exactly where he is, in that neighborhood, and he enjoys good business.

sounds like you are a seasoned visitor to the caribbean. so, i guess it's still up to the individual, as it has always been in the past... it will likely be pretty much as you remember it. of course, i am open to reading the posts of those who have actually BEEN there since, which i have not...

Thanks Anita,
I always enjoy reading your feedback on the message boards. Even though it shows my name as a recent/new poster, (I can never remember my passwords and had to restart a new one, as I couldn't get the old one emailed to me) at any rate, We are going to go to Coki!

We learn something new every time we go to the VI, so while we are seasoned to some, we still discover new and wonderful things along with the "must do it again" things! We are careful wherever we travel to. Being polite, respectful, courteous and willing to learn about a new place goes along way, both at home and abroad.

I can't wait to go back...

thanks again Anita!

i was there in april and had a good time, seems to be cleaned up from previous years. there are still all the vendors and people hanging out all over the road, but no problems. I hear they just approved more money to do additional cleanup over there, but not sure when that work will start. I always give one of the guys out on the road a few bucks and he says park over here. i know he doesn't work there or anything, but it just seems better to keep the peace i guess.
