We are thinking of staying in a villa at Coral Bay. What is the closest nice (sand filled) swimming beach to Coral Bay? How far way is it by jeep? I seem to remember the area at Coral Bay being very rocky with little sand.

The Coral bay side is quite rocky. We stayed in Coral Bay and drove over to the north shore beaches everyday. It was only about 20 minutes. I think Maho is the closest sandy beach.

Hansen and Salt Pond are two sandy beaches that come to mind on that side of the island.

Hanson, Salt Pond and if you have a 4WD, the Lameshur Bays all offer good sandy beaches. Don't let the 15-20 drive to Maho & Francis turn you off to North Shore beaches. Too close to pass them up.

IMHO, Francis is very nice and calm. You have to drive a little, but it's not too far. Also, Lameshure (sp?) is very quiet too. Now that the road is mostly paved, the traveling is easier to get there. Have fun!
