Could someone tell me if there are rental agencies within walking distance and which ones are the best to rent just for a day? And should this be pre-arranged or can we just show up and get a car anytime?

There's a car rental right across the street from the parking lot.
You need to call them ahead of time because their main office is in Havensight near the cruise ship dock. They're at Red Hook sporadically.

Marco was talking about the Red Hook ferry. IN Charlotte Amalie, you'll have a bit of a walk to get to a car rental, but you can shop along the way!! Or, you could pay a taxi $4 to get to Budget at Havensight. It's best to have a reservation on STT.

Hello Chrisn,

Budget has a location at Sapphire Resort, which is close to Red Hook. I believe they will meet you at the Red Hook Ferry if you reserve and tell them you are coming on the ferry.

Also in another post you asked about how to go about visiting Coki, Coral World, Tram etc. I think a rental car is a great idea. It was suggested you take the Red Hook ferry over and the CA ferry back - if you want to do this and rent a car; you might ask Budget if you can return the rental (that you got through their Sapphire office) at their Havensight or Subbase office (both are close to town) and then take a taxi to downtown to catch the ferry.

If your choose to come on the CA ferry, Avis has a location at the Seaplane (maybe a 10-12 minute walk from where the St. John ferry pulls in along the waterfront).
