I just returned from a camping trip August 8-August 18, 2006........never again!!
Cinnamon Bay is closing for amost 6 weeks beginning Sept 1 to Oct 10. When making reservations they did not inform me that the main office, resturant, general store, and beach house would have very reduced hours.
The evening that I arrived at 6:30p eveything was closed and only a confused security guard was on duty!
The resevations info gave hours of 8a to 8p every day.......!
The limited staffing were rude, and could have cared less about your needs!!
The mosquitos were horrible which if not on the beach, was impossible to tolerate! They don't spray for bugs because it would upset the food supply for bats. The hell with us humans who pay good money for vacations!
I will never return to Cinnamon Bay again...........period!

Did you not think Cinnamon Bay was gorgeous just a little??? Maybe next trip you should try a resort or condo instead of camping where they would be more "service" oriented. Maybe that would suit your needs more. I can't imagine letting even rude staffers distract me from all that beauty though... I hate that your impression of STJ and/or Cinnamon Bay wasn't the fact that it is incredibly beautiful.

Wow...thanks for the ????Great???? trip report!
We are goin first week in December & sure hope it's all up to what we expect!! (which is a beautiful beach & peace & quiet!)

We are dealing with nasty bees here this time of year....can't even get out our back door without at least 3 of them sneeking inside our house...or following us to our car...or chasing us around our yard! And when they sting...you deal with huge itchy bumps!

Rude staff....can't be anything worse than teenagers that I live with!!!

Terry, I can appreciate your experience as I too think its up to the accomodations staff to let you know if services will be reduced. That must have been a horrific bummer! I would have been pissed. We checked out Cinnamon on one of our previous trips and didn't care for it frankly but to each his own of course. But you DID have a right to the advertised services and I feel your legitimate pain. And you did have a right to non-rude service but unfortunately thats pretty subjective so prickly people may challenge you on that one!
As far as the bugs go, yeah, the island is in tuned with the critters of all kinds and maybe, just maybe, you could have learned more before you left. This message board has had MANY postings about dealing with the no-seeums (but maybe this is your first time here and no other source told you??) so its no secret that they exist, particularly at Cinammon where the sand is everywhere (one of the things we didn't like about C for that reason).
I think what other boarders say to you here is give STJ another chance so you can open yourself to the beauty of the island, the sunsets, the snorkling, the reggae music, the water and sailing and sunning and bird watching and beer in some cool funky bar- all the things that make this island so great. Please don't let an accomodation experience keep you from coming back- although you did just mention your anti-Cinnamon sentiments and maybe you do plan to come back but needed to vent???
I suggest, assuming you like the idea of a camping experience, that you try the Concordia Estates, part of Maho, on the Coral Bay side- fewer bugs (no sand since its not on the beach BUT you do need to respect the island non-spraying thing and bring a TON of DEET, personal bug spray)), incredible views, great, great friendly, helpful staff-etc. Or maybe Harmony at Maho Bay itself which we're doing in November, kind of lazy mans camping in a condo. Otherwise, check out the villa listings or maybe a hotel- regardless, I hope you did like STJ and will give it another chance. Yes, you are a visitor , who theoretically was familiar with the trials and tribulations of camping- who paid for an experience and were let down but please don't let that cloud your experience of STJ.
