What are the accomodations like? Are they primitive ? Or pretty good for a campsite? What do they provide ? What are the necessities I need to bring? And can you get around without a car? I mostly want to get to the beaches and cruz bay for a nice restaurant.

Cinnamon Bay has three different types of campsites. It has primitive where you supply your own tent and gear. Then there are sites that have a sturdy tent with a floor and cots...along with charcoal grill and other gear. Then there are cabins...which to me look like small hotel rooms or a small duplex, and are full geared. Fairly nice looking I must say. You can walk a couple hundred feet from the sites and will be on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. On site there's a restaurant, general store, showers, and water sports rental. A rental car would be your call, but taxis are always in the area to run you about 20 minutes back to Cruz Bay or wherever. I'm actually considering camping there my nest trip next year.

Check out the St John link on this site and go to National Park for some more info.

Or here for a lot more info:

FYI-the cots in the tents are not the-ahem-cleanest things in the world, and not that comfortable either. I have had good experiences at Cinnamon but also some rudeness from the workers there. However, the beach is beautiful, there is a cafeteria type restaurant, and you can rent snorkel gear, etc. If you can bring your own camping stuff, all the better. The sites are ok. If you want to explore the island and see the other great beaches, get a rental. Hey, you're on vacation, might as well do it all! But the taxi's will take you to town, and maybe some of the other beaches close by. If you can get around some of the negatives there are a lot of positives-less costly to camp, right on the water, etc. Whatever, have a great time.

Hello,

I have stayed in the cabins... they were cement with screen-mesh type thing... cots were alright... mosquitos were out and buzzing around. It was wonderful getting up at dawn and walking on the beach - no foot prints, no people, just the water - really nice. A nice perk to the fact that I hadn't slept at all, nothing to do with the cots or the mosquitos. The shower is open at the top, open to the sky.... they are alright, a short walking distance from the cabins. Food at the restaurant is good. Hiking trail is good. Beach is beautiful. I am not big into camping; I have camped and stayed in like cabin type things elsewhere; Cinnamon Bay was what I expected of camping - I wouldn't call the cabins comparable to a hotel...

I just checked out there web site at http://www.cinnamonbay.com/ the cottages look like they have been improved since I was there... they look cleaner - nicer. So take my experience with a grain of salt as it seems things have changed some.

Have a great time.

Okay, maybe I pumped up the living conditions a little, but remember...it's camping. 🙂 (Plus I haven't actually camped here...only visited the beach and looked at the sites briefly)

I camp a lot at CONUS state parks and the sites looked a bit better than I'm used to...or maybe it was just the fact that the beach overwhelmed me...lol. 🙂

Just a little note....

I realized that my comment about the cots and mosquitos and not sleeping might have seemed sarcastic - I was being sincere - it had nothing to do with that, it was the company that prevented peaceful sleeping.
