We would like to attend a church while on vacation on STT. We attend a "non-denominational" Christian church here in Wisconsin. I have read that you have to "dress up" for church on the islands. Can anyone elaborate on "dress up"? We usually wear jeans to our church. Would shorts be frowned upon or considered rude? Also, are there any non-denom churches?

Thanks,

Melissa

Some churches dress more than others. Usually the more liberal the church, the less restrictive is the dress code. I don't think, though, that shorts and jeans are appreciated, but nice pants and tops for either male/female would be okay in a non-denominational church.

I see a non-demoninational church in the phone book. The address is in Frenchtown (close to town). Their phone number is 340-715-2482. There's a listing for an independent, and interdenominational, and other listings for churchs that don't seem to specify the faith (like International Christian Center).

I think a friend of mine attends a non-denominational church. I'll confirm with her later, and if so, will post her church info.

Hello Melissa,

Dressed up means Sunday best. Dresses for women and girls, stockings, high heel shoes. Men in long sleeve shirts and slacks, boys too and sometimes in a tie. Not unusual for a few men to have suit jackets on and a few older ladies to wear hats. It does vary a bit by church, with some being a little more casual - though not usually as casual as jeans or shorts.

Nice jeans with a dress shirt would be better than shorts, but some churches are open air with ceiling fans so you'd be hot in jeans. A bit dressier, cooler and an easier to pack option since they are a lighter fabric than jeans are khaki pants. So nice khaki pants and a polo shirt for guys. And ladies could do pants and a blouse, or a skirt and blouse.

Where are you staying on the island? That way folks can point you to a church that is nearby.
