We will be in St John for Christmas, and I'm wondering what the cost would be for a
very small tree. I can pack a few strings of lights if it's not too out of sight. Or maybe it
would be best to throw them in a potted palm. What do you think?
Also, if we want to go to a church service should we pack traditional church clothes, or
can the kids go in shorts and me in a sundress?
I don't want to be disrespectful or pack "sunday best" if we don't need to.
You can purchase a small tree for about the same as you would back home $25 and up. The tree, lights and other decorations can be purchased at either of the two local K-marts in St. Thomas if you choose to. Packing a few of your own ornaments can also give Christmas that special -home with the family- feel. Another tree sugguestion would be to buy a small island pine, if you want to ver away from the traditional christmas tree.
About church, usually I would say "come as you are", but during this special time you may want to dress up as the other "E and C's" do. E and C referring to those people that only go to church during Easter and Christmas. It is a special time of year and locals and foreigners alike, usually dress accordingly.
Hello Deb,
I agree with "once a local" the majority are going to be wearing their sunday best or close to it for Christmas mass.

Thanks Islander,
Does Sunday best mean coat and tie, or dockers and polo shirt? Also, does SJ have
prodostant churches or is the Catholic church the one. I was raised Catholic but my
family and I are now Methodist. Don't really think we would take the ferry to ST in our
Sunday best to find a particular church. Actually, I would enjoy a mass on Christmas
day.
Thanks for your ensight,
Deb
Hello Deb,
Some folks will wear jackets, others will wear long sleeve with tie or polo and slacks... (and there will be a few in real casual outfits). Dockers and polo is good.
