Dear Islanders

My wife and I will be spending Christmas and New Years evening at STJ :@)

How does islanders celebrate these days?
Do you celebrate Christmas on the 24th or 25th?

Do you have any recommendations? Will restaurants be open?

Yours

Hans,

Christmas was actually moved to Dec 15th. The USVI department of tourism decided five years ago that they should follow the BVI's lead and move the "official" celebration date to something more appropriate.

The date change was done for two reasons.
1) to allow the islanders some quiet time with family before peak tourism season
2) to save electricity/water.

I doubt the scheduling change will effect your vacation, just beware that discussions are underway to move New Years eve to Feb 3rd.

As the British queen would have said:

"We are amused..." ...or something like that 😀
